After a wild Day 1c, the field is now set for Day 2 of the $1,100 PLO Championship at the Champions Club Winter Poker Open in Houston, Texas.
The event’s largest opening flight field of 95 entries brought 12 more survivors through into the money and onto Tuesday’s final day of play.
They were led by Carson Wieland, who made a late surge to rocket up the counts to bag 805,000 chips, good enough for second overall to start Day 2 behind only Thai Ha’s 940,000.
Monday’s second biggest stack belonged to Sung Keem with 551,000, which is good enough for third overall on Day 2.

Day 1c Deets
As mentioned, the 95 entries on Monday made for by far the largest opening flight of the event which ended up totaling 199 entries. This created a $192,035 total prizepool, easily blowing past the $150,000 guarantee.
The winner will receive $45,795 for their efforts.
The battle for the chip lead and a big bag to take into Day 2 didn’t have a firm contender until midway through the day as Kyle Arora took control for a couple of hours as the first player to cross half a million chips. Arora would slide back down late in the day though, making way for Keem to take the lead.
It appeared that Keem would be scoring his second end-of-day chip lead in as many days (Keem bagged the lead of Day 1d of the $400 Mystery Bounty event), but the combination of a large loss to Jin Lee in the day’s final level along with a series of wins for Wieland left Keem in the runner-up position, but still very healthy for a potential run to the title.
Following the day’s final break after Level 12, 22 players remained and just two of them fell over the next two levels, which led to a feeling that it could be a long night to get to that final dozen survivors.
That fear went unfounded though as a couple of spurts of rapid eliminations including three in the final five minutes of the night wrapped things quickly to the delight of the advancing players.
The Plan for Day 2
From the trio of opening flights, 26 returning players will now vie for the championship on Tuesday with all of them having locked up $2,290, but that $45,795 first prize is just a few more hours of poker away.

Just after Jin Lee scored a huge double-up to take away Sung Keem's chip lead, bodies fell quickly on both tables to suddenly end what potentially looked to be a lengthy night.
Joseph Dulaney first eliminated Zachary Hammons, which was followed by Carson Wieland felting Southisak Seunsom to take over the chip lead that was held by Keem.
Finally, Matthew Liu became the bubble boy at the same time on the other table to end play without the need for hand-for-hand play.

Jolyne Thompson was down to her last 30,000 on the button which she got in preflop against chip leader Sung Keem in middle position.

Sung Keem: A♥10♦6♠5♥
The flop came J♣10♣10♥ giving Keem trip tens, while Thompson had an open-ender to keep her hopes alive.
The K♦ fell on the turn to give Thompson her straight, but on the river, the dealer placed the 5♠, filling up Keem to end Thompson's day short of the money and Day 2.
John Brooks and David Nguyen have also been eliminated, bringing the field down to 15.

After John Brooks raised to 14,000 in early position, Carson Wieland called on the button, as did Lawrence Chang in the big blind.
The flop came A♦10♠7♦ and after a check from Chang, Brooks bet 28,000. both opponents called and the trio saw the 4♦ turn.
Action now checked to Wieland who bet 75,000 with only Chang calling.
The players each checked the river and Wieland showed A♥K♣Q♦5♦ for the second nut flush which was good enough for the win.

After nary a bustout for almost an hour, three quick eliminations in the last five minutes have thinned the field down to 18.
Six more eliminations are needed to get the final 12 players on to Day 2 and into the money.

At the break an hour ago, Kyle Arora had the second biggest stack in the room, while Lawrence Chang was one of the shorter stacks.
Their fortunes have switched in the last two levels, as Chang has rebuilt in large part through Arora.
In a recent pot with about 60,000 in the middle on a completed board of K♥J♦2♣9♣8♦, Arora checked his big blind to Chang, who bet 45,000.
Arora thought for a bit and then slid in a call.
Chang showed A♦10♥9♠9♦ for a turned set of nines to take the pot and continue his successful rebuild.

Liam McDonough raised to 12,000 in the hijack and got three-bet to 35,000 by Sung Keem in the cutoff. McDonough called and the flop came Q♦7♣2♠.
McDonough check-called a bet of 20,000 from Keem and the duo then checked the 10♦ turn.
On the K♦ river, after a final check from McDonough, Keem cut out 80,000 chips and put them forward.
McDonough folded to send the sizeable pot to Keem.
