Monroe Gets a Dub

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante
Rich Monroe
Rich Monroe

Around 13,000 was in the middle from preflop action in a heads-up pot between an early-position player and Rich Monroe, who was in the cutoff. The flop came {6-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} and both players checked.

The turn was {5-Clubs} and the player in early position bet 6,300. Monroe called. The river fell {9-Clubs} and the early-position player looked back at his holdings before announcing a check. Monroe then looked over across the table to his opponent, eyeing a stack that the player revealed to be 17,000.

"Seventeen thousand, huh?" said Monroe. "I don't have that much," he said, sliding his remaining chips forward.

"I call," said the early-position player reluctantly. "Do you have the nuts?" he asked, showing {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}, and Monroe confirmed the news as he tabled {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts} for the best hanad.

"How much is it?" asked Monroe's opponent. The stack was totaled to be 9,700, which the player paid off. "Good hand, sir," he added.

Gutierrez Gets Value with Top Set

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante
Zach Gutierrez
Zach Gutierrez

Around 10,000 was in the middle on a board reading {k-Spades}{10-Clubs}{j-Spades}{7-Hearts} and action was heads up between Greg Geller in middle position and Zach Gutierrez, who was in the cutoff. Geller check-called a bet of 3,500 from Gutierrez and the river {2-Hearts} completed the board.

Geller checked again and Gutierrez fired out 10,000. Geller thought for a few minutes and then tossed his two remaining T5,000 chips onto the felt to make the call.

Gutierrez tabled {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} for top set and it proved to be good for the pot as Geller quickly pushed his cards forward from the one-seat to muck them.

Jason Welch

Jason Welch raised to 900 in early position and received calls from the cutoff and big blind. The flop dropped {3-Spades}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs} and the big blind checked to Welch, who continuation-bet 1,000 and saw the cutoff fold. The big blind then called, taking action to the turn {a-Hearts}.

Wilkie Shows a Flush

Level 3 : 200/300, 300 ante
Steve Wilkie
Steve Wilkie

Steve Wilkie raised to 800 in early position and received a call from the player on his left in middle position. The player on the button, small blind, and Ted Shenefelt in the big blind also called.

"Let's go," said Shenefelt as he completed the preflop action. "Pair the board!" he added.

The flop came {9-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and the small blind checked. Shenefelt led out for 1,600 and everybody but the player on the button called, taking action four ways to the turn {k-Diamonds}. Both the small blind and Shenefelt then checked, and WIlkie tossed out 5,000 onto the felt. Action folded back to Shenefelt, who gestured to the dealer with a hand wave that requested a spreading of the pot. The dealer complied.

"Nice bet," Shenefelt then said, sending his cards to the muck. Wilkie showed {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for the turned flush and added a chunk to his stack as a result.
