Matusow Sets up Pappas

Mike Matusow (Day 1)
Mike Matusow (Day 1)

Art Pappas limp-called a raise from Mike Matusow in a battle of the blinds, and the dealer fanned {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}. Pappas checked, Matusow tossed out 5,500, and Pappas called.

The turn was the {j-Diamonds}, and Pappas knuckled again. Matusow fired 10,000, and Pappas made the call.

The river was the {7-Hearts}, and both players opted to check. Matusow tabled {j-Spades}{j-Hearts} for a set of jacks, and is now up to around 235,000 chips.

Aces vs. Kings

After a series of bets, William Leppert raised to 48,000. Fabio D'Agata moved all in for 96,800, and Leppert tanked for the better part of two minutes before calling with {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}.

D'Agata rolled over exactly what Leppert was worried about - {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}.

The board ran out {q-Hearts}{5-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}, and D'Agata raked in the huge pot.

Matt Affleck - Eliminated

Among the recently eliminated players is Matt Affleck. We unfortunately missed Affleck's bust-out hand because he's at the featured table and it's a bit difficult to get a good view, but his seat his empty and his chips are gone as well.

Kessler Crippled; Busts Soon After

Allen Kessler - Eliminated
Allen Kessler - Eliminated

On a flop of {q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{3-Spades}, Peter Halperin was all in and at risk with {q-Spades}{j-Hearts}. Allen Kessler had him covered with {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}, but didn't improve as the turn and river came {10-Clubs}, {9-Spades} respectively.

He was left with just 1,600, and a few hands later moved all in preflop with {q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. He ran into an opponent with two sevens however, and the sevens held.

Diamonds are Forever

Justin Schwartz (Day 1)
Justin Schwartz (Day 1)

Michael Young and Justin Schwartz were heads up with about 45,000 int he middle and the board reading {10-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}. Young moved all in for 61,100, Schwartz went into the tank, asked the dealer to spread the pot, and then made the call.

He showed the {k-Hearts}, but before he could show a second card, Young tabled {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for an ace-high flush.

Schwartz mucked the second card, and is now down to around 47,000 chips. Young sprung up to 170,000.

Jewell Applying Pressure

Kurt Jewell (Day 1)
Kurt Jewell (Day 1)

Kurt Jewell led out for 2,700 on a flop of {7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{5-Diamonds}. Joe Martucci, who was one of the nine players to re-enter today, called, and the turn was the {4-Spades}.

Jewell led again - this time for 5,100 - and Martucci tanked for a bit before calling.

The {10-Clubs} completed the board, and after examining Martucci's stack, Jewell grabbed a hanful of blue T5,000 chips and plopped them in front of him. The all-in bet was effectively 23,800 - an amount which Martucci was unwilling to commit.

He folded, and Jewell picked up the pot without a showdown.

Double Knockout, OMG

When we arrived at Table 6, Luke Vrabel was all in for his last 20,000 or so. Peter Gilmore was also all in for around 60,000, and Jonathan Drane had them both at risk and well-covered.

Vrabel: {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}
Gilmore: {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Drane: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

The aces held as the board ran out {j-Clubs}{8-Spades}{2-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{6-Spades}, and Drane is up to 190,000 chips. Gilmore and Vrabel are both eliminated.

#JBL

Here are a few players that were recently eliminated:

Thanking the Dealer Prematurely

Yasin Ahmady was all in and at risk moments ago holding {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}. His opponent, Art Pappas, had him at risk with {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}.

"Don't do this s*** to me," Ahmady told the dealer.

The flop fell {10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{5-Spades}, which was safe, and Ahmady actually thanked the dealer.

The {5-Diamonds} on the turn was also a brick, but the suicide king ({k-Hearts}) spiked on the river, eliminating Ahmady from the tournament.

"That's dirty," tablemate Mike Matusow added.

Ahmady stood in shook for a moment, then collected his things and hit the rail. Pappas, who entered the day sixth in chips, is now over the 200,000-chip threshold.
