Mattern's Mound Not So Mountainous

Arnaud Mattern
Arnaud Mattern
A series of disasters has knocked Arnaud Mattern down to under 15,000. The latest of these disasters involved Mattern betting a {Q-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {5-Clubs} flop and his opponent Marco Fantini, an Italian Pokerstars supernova online player, check-calling. Fantini checked the {A-Diamonds} turn as well and Mattern bet 4,900 -- but Fantini announced all in for 17,000 and Mattern passed. Mattern dropped down to less than 15,000 and straight into the pummeling embrace of masseuse extraordinaire Frida.

Bulgaria Represent

Atanas Gueorguiev is our lone Bulgarian in the field and he's had to contend with the raising machine that is Ludovic Lacay all evening. After a middle position player raised to 825, Lacay came over the top with a reraise to 2,400. When the action folded around to Gueroguiev in the big blind, he decided to take a stand, moving all in for 10,900. The move quickly chased away the initial raised and Lacay followed suit after a bit of a dwell.

With that pot, Gueorguiev increased his stack to 13,500.

French-On-French Action

His stack previously in the 30,000s, Ludovic Lacay has fallen on hard times of late, dropping down to around 13,500. He has scraped a few back though, courtesy of fellow Frenchman Jean-Mathieu Torre. Lacay raised to 800 preflop and Torre called from the big blind. Torre bet out 2,000 on the {10-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} flop, smooth called by Lacay, and then backed down and checked the {2-Clubs} turn. Lacay fired out 3,500 and Torre gave it up there.

Lacay now on 16,500.

Griffin Drops Down

Gavin Griffin is down to 8,000 after calling Sergey Shcherbatsky all in for around 7,000 on the river of a {6-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} board. Griffin thought long and hard before reluctantly making the call; Shcherbatsky promptly turned over the {A-Hearts} and the less relevant {7-Diamonds}, and a despondent Griffin mucked.

Griffin: down to 8,000
Shcherbatsky: up to 39,000

Ziigmund Has Left the Building

Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies
Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies
Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies is currently pacing about in front of the Hyatt Regency Warsaw, having a cell phone conversation and enjoying the nip in the Polish air after being eliminated from the tournament by the man who can now claim the chip lead-- Serguei Pomerantsev. The Russian took out the Fin when his {A-?} {K-?} held up against Sahamies' {A-?} {Q-?}, and vaulted into the lead, his chip stack now totaling just over 40,000.
