Lodden On Fire

Johnny Lodden has further boosted his stack, knocking out an opponent on a most Lodden-favourable board. There was some raising preflop, and his opponent moved in on the {4-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {2-Hearts} flop. Lodden happily called with {8-Hearts} {9-Hearts} for the made flush; his hapless opponent turned over {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} and failed to improve on the {7-Diamonds} turn and the {3-Clubs} river.

Gryko Sitting Comfortably

One gentleman who has been rather quiet all day, but has nonetheless been quietly accumulating chips, is Richard Gryko. Even though 8,500 in chips found its way into the pot pre and on the {8-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {A-Spades} flop, Gryko and his opponent both checked the {7-Spades} turn and the {8-Clubs} river. After inquiring who had to show first, and being informed that it was on him, Gryko turned over {A-Hearts} {5-Hearts} for two pair and a missed flush draw, and his opponent's mucking of his cards, suggested that the ace was good to take the pot. Gryko's now on around 32,000.

Lacay Returns to Big Stack Status

Ludovic Lacay was back up to 30,000 and Jean-Mathieu Torre was nowhere to be seen last I checked, and we suspect that these two pieces of information may be connected.

As this was being noted, a gentleman moved all in for around 4,500 from the cutoff and found himself called by Lacay from the button. His pocket deuces were behind all the way against Lacay's pocket eights on an uneventful {Q-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {A-Clubs} {10-Clubs} board, and Lacay is now up to 35,000.

It's That Time of Night

With only a bit over thirty minutes left on the clock, the action has slowed considerably as our 58 remaining players set their sights on surviving to play Day 2. Short stacks like Andreas Hagen and Julien Van Lang are waiting to make their move, big stacks like Serguei Pomerantsev and Anthony Lellouche continue to fearlessly accumulate chips, and others are simply fighting to stay awake.

Johnny Lodden, in particular, seems to be fighting that battle; the 23-year old Norwegian is practically falling asleep into his beer glass as an attractive brunette rubs his weary shoulders.

Gavin Griffin Regains Ground

Once down to a mere 5,000 in chips, Gavin Griffin appears to be staging a late-night comeback. He made his stand, shoving all in with {A-?} {K-?} and getting a call from an opponent holding {Q-?} {J-?}. Griffin flopped an ace and turned another, doubling his stack to around the 13,000 mark and giving him a bit more hope of surviving the night.

Lodden Nearing 50K

I can smoke you fools in my sleep!
I can smoke you fools in my sleep!
Johnny Lodden may look like he's about to nod off into his chip stack, but he's done an excellent job growing it during this last level of play, raising hand after hand and getting folds around the table. Lodden looks to be up to about 48,000 or so, good for the chip lead.

Recovery for the French

Three-way to a {5-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {6-Clubs} flop and Marco Fantini bet out 1,050. Leszek Krawczynski, two seats to his left called, as did Arnaud Mattern on the cutoff. They proceeded to the turn.

Turn: {A-Clubs}

Fantini bet out 1,675 and once again he received no respect but found two callers instead.

River: {4-Clubs}

This time Fantini checked, and Krawczynski checked behind. Mattern, however, very cooly and deliberately counted out 7,375, and tossed the chips across the line. Both players passed, and Mattern claws back up to 27,000.

Further Recovery for the French

Ludovic Lacay has been on a bit of a rampage, most recently knocking out a luckless player whose {7-Diamonds} {7-Spades} was no good against Lacay's {10-Spades} {10-Hearts}. Lacay flopped a set for good measure, but in the end both players made a flush, Lacay's bigger than his now-busted opponent's.

Board: {10-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {2-Spades} {K-Spades}

Lacay now heading towards the 50,000 mark.
