Rahman Loses Some Chips To Cernuto

Samer Rahman
Samer Rahman
Samer Rahman raised to 3,100 from middle position and "Miami" John Cernuto called out of the small blind. The two players checked the flop and then the turn as the board ran out {Q-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {J-Clubs} {5-Diamonds}.

After the river fell, Miami John fired out 6,000. Rahman made the call, but was shown {J-Spades} {J-Hearts} by Mr. Cernuto. Rahman showed that Cernuto had turned the case jack when he revealed the {J-Diamonds} from his hand.

Cernuto Donates to Nuijten

After some preflop action, Julien Nuijten and "Miami" John Cernuto took a flop of {A-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {8-Diamonds}. Nuijten bet out 4,200 and Cernuto called.

The turn brought the {2-Hearts} and Nuijten bet 10,000 this time. Cernuto checked his cards, commenting, "Let me make sure I didn't flop a set."

"If you flopped a set, I think you'd know it." responded Nuijten.

"I don't know, if I misread my hand then I flopped a set." came back Cernuto. "Maybe you turned a set."

"That's pretty unlikely." finished Nuijten.

Riverman Robbed

Oh dear, an irksome start to the day for Laurence Houghton.

It folded around to him in the small blind and he (this is important) may or may not have announced a raise of 3,500, sticking in one 5,000 chip and one 500 chip. He is most unfortunate today, though, to be seated directly to the right of Lex Veldhuis, who responded with dumping a stack of yellow 5,000 chips in the middle by way of a reraise. Houghton folded and the dealer pushed all the chips towards Veldhuis.

"Hey, I raised three and a half," protested Houghton. An argument with the dealer now erupted. "Hey, chill out,' urged Veldhuis, to whom 2,000 chips are apparently as nothing. Houghton failed to chill out though, and the argument was still raging as the press backed away from the table.

Deeb Done and Dusted

Deeb
Deeb

The gentleman on the button raised 3,600 into two short stacks, the small blind perched on less than 20,000 and big blind Freddy Deeb on just 6,100, including his big blind.

The small blind gave it some consideration but ultimately opted for the fold. Deeb, however, was too short to decline the opportunity and raised all in. Call, obviously.

Deeb: {A-Clubs} {6-Hearts}
Mr. Button: {8-Spades} {9-Diamonds}

Board: {K-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {7-Hearts}

And in case you missed it, check out Freddy getting the clock called on him during Day 1a by our very own Melissa Castello.

The Dude Bets Huge

A player under the gun raised to 3,500 and the cutoff called before Lex Veldhuis called out of the big blind. The flop came down {A-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {3-Clubs} and Veldhuis checked. The prelop raiser bet 6,300 and the cutoff folded. Veldhuis made the call though.

The turn was the {Q-Diamonds} and Veldhuis checked. His opponent fired 25,000 on the turn and Lex gave him a weird look. Earlier, the same player moved in on Lex for about 60,000 in a pot worth 20,000. Veldhuis did make the call this time for the 25,000.

The river was the {2-Diamonds} and both players quickly checked.

Lex's opponent showed him {5-Clubs} {5-Hearts} for a flopped set and scooped in the pot after Lex mucked.

Sander Goes Under

We arrived to see the thrilling denouement of a showdown, the chips having apparently all gone in preflop.

Sander Lyloff: {J-?} {J-?}
Mr. Opponent: {A-?} {K-?}

Board: {K-?} {A-?} {8-?} {4-?} {K-?}

Thus we lose our 2007 champion, just before the first break.

Break Time

As if to make up for skipping the dinner break, our runners will apparently be getting a 15 minute break after every level. They're off on their first one now.

May De La Gorce Be With You

Guilaurme De La Gorce has knocked out Fabio Georges after the latter pushed from the small blind against the Frenchman's cut-off raise with {8-Diamonds} {8-Clubs}. De La Gorce had {10-Clubs} {10-Hearts} though and held out on a {A-Hearts} {Q-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {4-Hearts} board, bumping his stack up to about 85,000.

Schaefer's Aces Cracked

Brandon Schaefer is down to 90,000 after his {A-Clubs} {A-Spades} was cracked by {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} when a third diamond came along after a {J-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {3-?} flop.

"He just flatted me pre," said Brandon, "but what are we going to do after the flop? It be nice to have 190,000 but 90,000 isn't too bad."
