Cernuto Still Around

We're really impressed by short stack play of Miami John Cernuto. He has seemingly been short the entire day but has managed to hang on. He tried raising the button to 80,000 in a recent hand, leaving himself about 175,000 behind. Marc Naalden was in the small blind and reraised to 200,000. Cernuto decided to wait for a better spot. He passed.

Roy Hits Miracle

Annette Obrestad wasn't messing around. She threw a mass of orange (T25,000) chips into the middle after action folded to her on the button and she had two short stacks in the blinds. The small blind passed, but Alain Roy looked down at his cards and quickly called all in for 224,000.

Obrestad laughed and said, "I have an ace," showing down {A-Clubs} {2-Spades}. Roy tabled {J-Hearts} {J-Clubs}. He was disgusted to see an ace on the {A-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {10-Diamonds} flop and started to walk away from the table. His rather vocal railing section cheered excitedly and called him back when the {J-Spades} spiked on the turn to win him the pot. Roy doubled up to about 470,000.

No More Naujoks

Naujoks - gone but not forgotten
Naujoks - gone but not forgotten
EPT Dortmund winner Sandra Naujoks is out. She got it in with the best hand, {K-?} {Q-?} against her assassin's {K-?} {10-?}, but a king on the flop was followed by a ten on the turn, and out she goes.

Not sure who it was who was responsible of robbing everyone in the room of the rather nice view, but her former tablemate Matthew Woodward is now up to a suspicious-looking 2,300,000.

Outrage All Round

A big hand and some Italian-fueled controversy, as Matthew Woodward bet 125,000 on the river of a {3-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {6-Clubs} {3-Spades} {2-Clubs} board. Dag Martin Mikkelsen raised, and Woodward disappeared into the tank.

While this was happening, Sergio Castellucio wandered off to the bar and got a coffee. He came back with his coffee, and immediately called time on Woodward, without having been involved in or actually seen the hand. Woodward was outraged and called Thomas Kremser over. While God's own tournament director was patiently explaining the procedures for calling the clock, Woodward folded. Now Mikkelsen was outraged. Outrage rules at table five.

Bring Me Fewer Russians

Kravchenko - sigh
Kravchenko - sigh
We are down one Russian in the form of Alex Kravchenko. He shoved with {J-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds}, got looked up by Sergio Castellucio in the big blind holding {A-Hearts} {J-Diamonds}, was dominated, completely failed to connect in any ultimately meaningful way with the {4-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {9-Spades} board, and was gone.

Tulchinskiy Tires of Life, Tournament

Pieter de Korver raised from the cutoff, and in the small blind Mikhail Tulchinskiy pushed all in for another 230,000. De Korver tanked up.

"He is tired," said tablemate Roger Hairabedian to dealer Robbie, pointing at Tulchinskiy. Nevertheless, regardless of whether or not Tulchinskiy just wanted to go home, de Korver folded and Tulchinskiy will have to remain here until his chips are gone or Thomas Kremser declares it bedtime.

Can We Go Home Yet?

This tournament really has slowed to a snail's pace while the blinds slowly catch up to those big old stacks. Still on thirty-eight and with no magic twenty-four runner ending in sight, it has been decided that we will be playing one more level after this one tonight, and then we'll be calling it a day.

Grayson Fades

Physioc - did not win this hand
Physioc - did not win this hand
Christopher Rossiter made it 45,000 and after a considerable time, Grayson Physioc called from the button.

They saw a {7-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} flop, and after a little pause, Rossiter checked. After apparently counting to ten in his mind or something similar, Physioc called. In fact, every action in this particular hand seemed to take an incredibly long time, so sparing our readers the dwelling:

Rossiter checked the {2-Spades} turn and then called 125,000 from Physioc. Both checked the {10-Spades} river, and Rossiter flipped over {J-Clubs} {J-Spades} to take it down while Physioc merely mucked. Physioc is now down to 790,000.

Simultaneous Eliminations

It's been another cautious level of play from the players. Eliminations are few and far between despite the average stack having moved down to 35 big blinds. But the shortest of the short stacks have no choice now.

Patrick Sacrispeyre was all in on Table 3 at the same time that Roland Lee was all in on Table 2. Sacrispeyre was in a race with his {A-Hearts} {J-Hearts} against pocket fives. A board of {A-Spades} {2-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {K-Spades} was the end for Mr. Sacrispeyre.

At the other table, Lee's {J-Clubs} {J-Spades} were up against Ludovic Lacay's {A-Hearts} {10-Hearts}. Lee sighed as an ace flopped, {A-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {5-Diamonds}. He was out the door after the {9-Diamonds} turn and {3-Diamonds} river.

Lucky Turn for Woodward

A big pot for chip leader Matthew Woodward.

Sandra Naujoks raised to 50,000 and was called in two spots by Matthew Woodward and Dag Martin Mikkelsen.

Flop: {3-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {6-Spades}

Woodward bet out 105,000 and Mikkelsen called. Naujoks thought better of it and passed.

Turn: {A-Hearts}

This time, check, check.

River: {3-Spades}

Woodward bet out 225,000, and after a long and probably not very peaceful spell in the tank, Mikkelsen called and tabled {9-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}. He giggled in possible embarrassment when he discovered that Woodward had hit the turn with his {A-Clubs} {9-Clubs}.
