It's probably had to get motivated for a €5,000 tournament when the price of the entry is just a couple big blinds at your cash table. Just ask Ilari Sahamies.
Just moments after returning to the table after an impromptu dinner break, Sahamies found his stack of 64,000 whittled down to about 20,000. Those 20,000 all went in before the flop with , and he somehow found action from Katalin Jerney and her .
The flop was, er, in her neighborhood as it came out ten-high with three clubs. Sahamies was drawing stone dead right there, and he's been eliminated just as the last break of the day approaches.
Mikhail Tulchinskiy is back up to a still rather sub-par 15,000 after shoving in position on a flop. Both his opponents passed, and the Russian stays in.
Some shouting alerted us to the fact that Peter Hedlund was still in the room, and this time was getting worked up over the fact that no-one had liked the flop enough to call his bet. He showed them .
"What are you guys doing?!" he cried in despair. Clearly making the right decision...
What do you listen to when you play poker? During the last break, Gloria found out what Sorel "Imper1um" Mizzi listens to on his iPod, and you might be a bit surprised by his response (can you say Enya?). Check out how Mizzi uses music to control his tempo at the table. You might also enjoy his rendition of, "I'm a Barbie Girl," at the end — or not. Either way, check it out:
There were three players in when we caught up with the action on the turn of the board, and the gentleman in mid position and Praz Bansi in the hijack both checked. On Bansi's iphone, Rihanna was writhing about atop a car bonnet, most distractingly.
Over to Daniel Rudd on the button, who bet 5,600. Mr. Mid Position called, and after a while, so did Bansi.
Messrs. Mid Position and Bansi checked the river and Rudd thought about his options for a while. He moved all in. Mr. Mid Position folded swiftly, but Bansi seemed to have more trouble. He pulled at his collar like it was suddenly very hot in the tournament room. Finally he folded, leaving himself on 16,000, and Rudd picked up the pot.
From the button, Alain Roy opened with a raise, and the short-stacked small blind moved all in for about 6,000. Roy called with , and Franck Daninos was racing for his tournament life with .
The board would run out sour for him: . Roy spiked his ace on the flop, and Daninios could not catch up to survive; he's outta here.
More fun facts concerning Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies.
It seems that before Sahamies knocked out Carter Phillips with those kings against Phillips' queens, Phillips had already handed most of his stack over in a rather dirty hand.
Sahamies arrived three hours late, naturally, and immediately doubled up with against Phillips' .
Furthermore, once he'd finished Phillips off, Sahamies disappeared again. Apparently all that luckboxing makes a Finn hungry, and he's hit the buffet. We don't know if he's coming back today, but he has 60,000 in chips. Just goes to show.
