Pairs A'plenty

Jan Skampa
Jan Skampa
Dario Minieri opened the pot to 2,200 from early position. Next door, Bahram Beleiverdi made the call, as did Martin Sjelle a few seats further down the line. On the button, Jan Skampa double-checked his cards and moved all in for a rather meager 14,700 total. Minieri asked for a count before folding, but Beleiverdi quickly announced an all in of his own. Sjelle slouched in his chair and shook his head before folding, putting Skampa heads up for his tournament life.

Showdown
Beleiverdi: {7-Diamonds} {7-Spades}
Skampa: {Q-Hearts} {Q-Spades}

In a bit of stating the obvious, Beleiverdi said, "I thought you had something." Sjelle told the table he folded pocket jacks, and they all seemed a bit surprised. In any event, time to run a board to see if Skampa can stay: {6-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {J-Clubs}. Yep, he can stay, and he'll stick around with more than twice as many chips as he had before the hand.

The debate about Sjelle's supposed pocket jacks fired up again once the river card fell. It started with Johnny Lodden indignantly asking, "You folded pocket jacks?!"

Sjelle: "He said all in too," pointing at Beleiverdi.

Lodden: "I know. Beautiful spot!" (smirking)

Dario Minieri chimed in too. "You didn't fold pocket jacks, did you?!" Sjelle nodded slowly while Dario continued. "I mean, I think you would fold pocket jacks. But I don't think you did."

Sharpe Gets Stung

The flop read {7-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {3-Hearts} by the time we arrived tableside, and Jeffrey Sharpe had checked. Cristiano Blanco in the cutoff, who seemed to have raised preflop, bet 6,000. After a moment Sharpe called.

The turn was the {7-Spades} and Sharpe checked again. This time Blanco bet 11,000, and after a little while, a rather twitchy Sharpe called again.

Sharpe checked a third time on the {8-Spades} river and this time Blanco bet 16,000. Sharpe looked a little flustered and folded. The triumphant Blanco quietly flashed {9-?} {4-?} offsuit, and raked in the considerable pot.

Jelassi Come Home

A preflop raising war between Ramzi Jelassi (button) and Peter Turmezey (small blind) was eventually won by Turmezey, but not before Jelassi had lost 10,000 on the hand.

Mr. Jelassi is now perched on 55,000.

Bel of the Ball

Stefan Nielsen raised to 3,000 in the cutoff and got looked up by both Dario Minieri in the small blind and Bahram Beleiverdi in the big blind.

Both blinds checked the {4-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {6-Hearts} flop to Nielsen who bet another 6,000. Minieri gave it up without a fight, but big stack Beleiverdi made the call and they continued to the turn.

The turn was the {K-Hearts} and Beleiverdi checked again; this time he laid it down to a 10,000 bet from Nielsen and the hand was concluded without a showdown.

No feeling sorry for Mr. Beleiverdi though! After starting the day as the table big stack on 94,000, he has done nothing but improve since he got here and even after that hand he's on a commanding 160,000.

Ruthless-berg

In middle position, Martin Wendt came in raising to 2,700. Sebastian Ruthenberg called from the button, and the decision came around to Casper Toft in the big blind. He stacked out a reraise and slid out 9,900 total. Wendt asked to see Toft's stack before electing to fold, but Ruthenberg came right along with the call once again.

Heads up, the flop came down {4-Clubs} {2-Spades} {2-Clubs}. Toth continued out with 10,500 chips, and Ruthenberg made the smooth call. On the turn, the {6-Spades} signaled another bet from Toth, 17,500 this time. But Ruthenberg wanted to play for more. In fact, he wanted to play for it all as he put two hands behind his chips and slid them all across the line.

Toth suck in his chair and let out a big, "Hmph!" in disgust. He had about 52,000 chips left in his stack, and he was faced with a decision for the full amount. Eventually, and quite angrily, Toth returned his cards to the dealer face-down.

Ruthenberg appears to have about 175,000 after that hand.

Marching On

The Danish clearly feel that breaks between levels are for losers, so we will be proceeding directly to level 10 without the 15 minute break that we normally enjoy after every level on Day 2.

Pinho the Tail on the Donkey

A fine start to the day for Vitor Pinho, after a gentleman whose number was mysteriously absent from the seating plan open-shoved in mid position for 9,300. Pinho called out of the big blind, and the unknown player was quickly consigned to the recycle bin of poker history.

Mr. Nobody: {A-Diamonds} {8-Clubs}
Pinho: {A-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}

Board: {7-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {A-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds}
