A Sick Finish to the Night

Morten Guldhammer opened in early position, raising to 30,000. A couple seats down, Paul Szyszko made the smooth call, and the bet passed further around the table. When it came to Jens Sundberg, he moved all in for 230,000 total. Guldhammer quickly folded, but Szyszko mulled it over for just a quick minute before making the call.

Showdown
Szyszko: {8-Clubs} {8-Hearts}
Sundberg: {10-Spades} {10-Hearts}

The news was good for the at-risk Sundberg, but it wouldn't stay that way for long. The dealer burned a card and laid three more face-down on the felt. When he flipped them over to spread the flop, the {8-Spades} was staring right up at the world. Just to really needle it, the dealer paused on the eight for about two seconds before unrolling the {K-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {8-Spades} flop, as the whole room reacted to the news that the day was possibly moments from ending.

Fourth street struck even harder. The {8-Diamonds} was the last eight-ball in the deck, and it made Szyszko the unbeatable quads and signaled Sundberg's elimination. Just so he'll have nightmares about it for a few months, the dealer was ruthless enough to put the {10-Clubs} on the river, Sundberg's useless full house marking the end of his day in 25th place, and the end of Day 3 altogether.
