Babel No Fish

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Frenchman Nicolas Babel has just shown aggression is the key to picking up vital chips in tournaments as he won a big pot after betting all three streets against Rasmus Nielsen.

Babel opened with a 3,700, Nielsen called next to act but everyone else folded, leaving the two players to go to battle on a flop reading {4-Hearts}{q-Spades}{a-Spades}. Babel quickly fired a bet of 4,600, which Nielsen quickly called by first tossing a single black 100 chip then utting the rest of the amount in delicately.

The {3-Diamonds} on the turn saw Babel bet 11,600 and once again Nielsen tossed a single 100 chip into the middle then put the rest in the middle carefully.

The {j-Diamonds} on the river prompted Babel to count his stack and then move all in for slightly over 50,000. Without any pause for thought, Nielsen mucked his hand

Over Kirilov

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Mihail Kirilov is no longer in the running after getting his chips in on the turn of a {4-}{9-}{j-}{10-} board with [7x8x0 for the bottom end of the straight, only to find Jan Bendik holding {k-}{q-} for the nuts. The {5-} river was purely academic, and he hit the rail.

Aces Hold in Three-Way All In!

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Down on table number seven there has just been a three-way all in between the table's shorter stacks.

We didn't see how the chips found their way into the middle but when the dust had settled we did see what cards everyone held!

Lasell King: {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}

Milous Artjorns: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Ionel Anton: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

The {7-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} flop kept the aces in front and the {k-Spades} in the turn meant Artjourns was now favourite to win the side-pot that was created. The {5-Spades} on the river completed the hand, doubling up Anton and eliminating King.

Bansi Doubles

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Eyes on the Praz
Eyes on the Praz

Caught only on the river as Ladislav Mika had a think about short stacked Praz Bansi's shove (20,200) into a pot of around 15,000, the board already out in full: {3-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}. Bansi has been officially grinding since halfway through yesterday, and only returned with 26,000, but his patience has paid off - Mika made this call and mucked when Bansi showed down {5-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} for the straight.

Babbling Broke

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Nostalgic for Top Gun?
Nostalgic for Top Gun?

Huge double up for Tobias Renkemeier, the German had opened preflop to 3,500 and received two callers before Nicolas Babel raised to 12,200 from the small blind. Renkemeier then made a small 4-bet to 23,500 and the callers both folded. Babel decided to respond by moving all-in and Renkemeier snap-called for his 126,200 stack and turned over {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} which miles ahead of Babel's {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}.

The board came out {8-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} and Renkemeier doubled to over 250,000 while Babel dropped to around 50,000.

Stop Press! Monfort Moving Up

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Ronan his stack up.
Ronan his stack up.

Erstwhile media member Ronan Monfort has had an up and down sort of day - he told us that he doubled up on the fifth hand of the day, but dropped back again when his aces got cracked by a short stack's pocket jacks.

Just now, though, he started heading back in the right direction as he faced a {j-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{2-Spades} flop. Rasmus Nielsen checked in the small blind and Ronan Collet bet 4,400. Monfort and Nielsen both called, and they saw a {4-Clubs} turn. This time it checked around to Monfort who bet 11,400, and both his opponents quickly passed.

Monfort's back up to around 65,000.

Romanello Stacks 'Em High - Literally

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Roberto Romanello has continued to add to his already ample stack by picking his spots well but also flopping sets helps a great deal too.

Ion Pavel opened the betting round with a raise from early position to 4,000 and both Joseph El Khoury in the cutoff and Romanello in the small blind made the call.

Romanello checked the {10-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{6-Clubs} flop, Pavel followed suit but El Khoury made it 6,600 to play. Romanello sat motionless for around a minute before clicking it back with a raise to 13,300. Pavel quickly mucked but El Khoury came along for the ride.

Both players checked the {5-Hearts} turn but Romanello bet 15,600 when the {k-Spades} arrived on the river. This bet was too big for El Khoury to call and he mucked his hand. It turned out to be a good fold as Romanello turned over {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} for a flopped set of sixes.

Most players stack their chips in piles of 10 or 20 chips but Romanello is a little different in that he simply piles every chip he has on top of each other making it very difficult to count them accurately. After spending an age trying to count them, I pegged him on 233,000.

Cody Culpable

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Cody Culp has doubled through Guillaume Darcourt with {a-}{k-} against pocket threes; for some reason Darcourt was furious when the ace dropped on the flop and he wandered off to the rail for a while.

Culp doubled to 110,000, Darcourt dropped to a little under 130,000.

Jorgensen Sent Back to Denmark

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Theo Jorgensen
Theo Jorgensen

Day 1a chip leader Elias Brussianos opened to 3,600 and Antonio Buonanno called in the cutoff before Theo Jorgensen shoved for 15,700 on the button. Back to Brussianos, who four-bet a whole stack of yellow T5k chips which was enough to scare off Buonanno. The cards were turned over, and Jorgensen was soon heading for the door.

Jorgensen: {a-Spades}{8-Diamonds}
Brussianos: {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}

Board: {q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{4-Clubs}

Naydenov Busto in Surprise Set Shocker

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Dirk Richter
Dirk Richter

Funny game, sometimes. Simeon Naydenov exited laughing just now, but in a slightly hysterical-sounding way after an unexpected hand took the rest of his 35k stack. Naydenov raised preflop to 3,600 and picked up four callers (Dirk Richter first, then the button and both blinds).

The flop: {A-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. Check to the raiser, who checked, as did Richter and Florian Langmann on the button.

A free turn: {10-Diamonds}. Now Naydenov bet 13,800 when it checked to him again, called instantly by Richter and no one else.

The river: {3-Hearts}. Naydenov shipped in his final 20,000 and Richter simply said, "Call," without bothering to move any chips. They were all coming his way anyhow, as while Naydenov showed {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}, Richter had flopped a bigger set with {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}!

Naydenov actually slapped his own forehead with an audible, "Thwack!" before taking his leave with rueful giggles.
