He may have started as chipleader but Giuseppe Pantaleo has just been eliminated in fifth place, good for €170,000.

Kent Lundmark opened from the cutoff with a raise to 225,000 and when the action folded to Pantaleo in the big blind, the German with the very Italian name, moved all-in for 3,095,000. Lundmark snap-called and the cards were revealed.

Lundmark: {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

Pantaleo: {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}

The flop of {2-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{j-Spades} didn't change anything, and neither did the {10-Spades} and {3-Diamonds} on the turn and river, and the tournament lost another player. We are now four handed

Pantaleo Doubles Through De Vries

Shander de Vries raised from the button and to his left in the small blind Giuseppe Pantaleo shoved for 1.13 million. De Vries made the call and they were on their backs.

De Vries: {a-Spades}{4-Spades}
Pantaleo: {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

Flop: {4-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} - the Dutch element in the media room went wild as their boy spiked a four.

Turn: {k-Hearts}, putting a pair on the board and suddenly giving Pantaleo a lot more outs.

River: {a-Clubs}!

Both players suddenly found themselves with two pair, kings and aces, and Pantaleo's ten kicker played. He doubled up to 2.42 million and is very much back in the game. De Vries is now our short stack on 1.235 million.

Runner, Runner Straight for Puchkov

Konstantin Puchkov
Konstantin Puchkov

Giuseppe Pantaleo raised to 210,000 and Konstantin Puchkov, who had been protecting his blinds a lot called in the big blind. The flop was {3-Diamonds} {q-Diamonds} {10-Spades} and after Puchkov checked Pantaleo bet 250,000 and Puchkov called. The turn was the {2-Clubs} and both players checked. The river was the {4-Clubs} and Puchkov checked his hole cards, chewed his tooth pick, scratched his head and bet 760,000 which was almost a pot sized bet. Pantaleo sighed audibly and given the size of his stack this was a huge decision for the German. After a short while Pantaleo made the call and mucked his cards when he saw the {a-} {5-} in front of Puchkov. The Russian had made a runner, runner straight.
