Day 4 Complete: Final Table All Set

Giuseppe Pantaleo - remains the daddy
Giuseppe Pantaleo - remains the daddy

Twenty-four players returned to the Casino de Barcelona and all but eight of them were eliminated. It took just 30 minutes for the first player to head for the cashier's desk, that dubious honour went to Sweden's William Thorsson. Mr Thorsson's chip stack was crippled late last night and he would have had a tough task on his hands to have progressed much further than he did.

He was joined on the rail by Dominik Nitsche, a player who finished in 62nd place in this very tournament last year but his run was brought to an end when his {q-Spades}{9-Hearts} was snapped off by Konstantin Puchkov's pocket sevens. The players were been gradually whittled down and when Luis Rufas was eliminated in tenth place, worth €50,000, remaining ten people joined up on an unofficial final table.

Each player knew that busting out in ninth place would not only prevent them from making an EPT final table, but would also cost them at least €20,000 in prize money. It looked as if Francesco Notaro was going to be the bubble boy when he moved all-in with {a-}{j-} and ran into Shander De Vries' {q-}{q-} but he actually had De Vries covered by around 300,000 chips. These went into the pot a few hands later with Notaro holding {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}, which prevailed against Georgios Skotadis' {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}.

Ninety minutes into the unofficial final table, we lost our last player for the day. Frenchman Candido Gonçalves opened in the cutoff to 115,000, Jesus Cortes Lizano three-bet to 285,000 and then Gonçalves moved all in! Lizano snap-called and his opponent must have known he was in trouble.

Gonçalves :{j-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
Lizano: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}

The board ran out {9-Spades}{7-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} and our final table of eight was set.

When the players return at noon tomorrow we will play until we crown a new champion. Until that moment comes, you will find the players in the following seats:

Seat 1: Jesus Cortes Lizano - 3,800,000
Seat 2: Kent Lundmark - 3,025,000
Seat 3: Konstantin Puchkov - 4,160,000
Seat 4: Shander De Vries - 3,120,000
Seat 5: Giuseppe Pantaleo - 5,655,000
Seat 6: Francesco Notaro - 745,000
Seat 7: Thor Stang - 1,290,000
Seat 8: Georgios Skotadis - 1,105,000

Join us from 1200 noon for all the action live from the Casino de Barcelona. Until then, take care!

Candido Gonçalves Eliminated in 9th Place (€50,000)

Candido Goncalves eliminated
Candido Goncalves eliminated

It seemed like an eternity but eventually we moved from nine players to a final eight after this hand.

Candido Gonçalves opened from the cut off to 115,000 and Jesus Cortes Lizano three-bet to 275,000. Gonçalves thought for a while before deciding to shove all-in and Lizano immediately called.

Lizano: {k-Hearts} {k-Spades}

Gonçalves: {j-Hearts} {9-Hearts}

Gonçalves had a ray of sunshine on a flop of {9-Spades} {7-Clubs} {8-Clubs} but then{q-Clubs} turn and {k-Diamonds} river ended Gonçalves dreams of a final table appearance.

Preflop Poker

Play on the televised table has been very cagey to say the least, with only one flop being seen in the last five hands.

In that hand Georgios Skotadis completed the small blind and Candido Gonçalves checked in the big blind. The flop came down {9-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{j-Spades}, Skotadis check then folded to Gonçalves' 115,000 bet.

Notaro Doubles Through Skotadis

Francesco Notaro
Francesco Notaro

A couple of hands after Francesco Notaro was crippled when his {a-}{j-} could not outrace the pocket queens of Shander De Vries, he doubled up through Georgios Skotadis.

Notaro open-shoved for 303,000 and found a caller in Skotadis, could this be our final elimination of the day?

Notaro: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Skotadis: {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}

The {7-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{10-Hearts} flop missed both players but the {9-Clubs} on the turn meant Skotadis could his a king or a jack to win. It was not to be though, as the {3-Hearts} showed up on the river to double up Notaro, who with blinds and antes, now has 726,000

Shander De Vries Doubles up Through Francesco Notaro

Shander De Vries opened on the cut off to 120,000. Giuseppe Pantaleo folded in the small blind and Francesco Notaro open shoved from the Big Blind for 1.6 millions and De Vries instantly called.

De Vries: {q-} {q-}

Notaro: {a-} {j-}

The board ran out kindly for De Vries and not so kindly for Notaro - {3-Clubs} {k-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {6-Spades}.

Shander De Vries now has ~3.5 million chips and Notaro has been left with the shortest stack on the table.
