Day 4 Completed

Day 4 Done; Negreanu in the Lead

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

And so, we are down to eight.

He declared himself the chip leader yesterday when he turned out to be in second place behind Konstantinos Nanos, but today he actually is the chip leader. Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu is way out in front as we head into the final, and there is a lot at stake here for him. Not only will the €700,000 first prize, should he win it tomorrow, nudge him back into the top spot on the all-time money list, but if he goes all the way, he will also join Roland de Wolfe and Gavin Griffin in the elite club of triple crown winners.

Negreanu may have the most chips, but the outcome of this final is far from decided. Still in the running are also Negreanu's fellow Team PokerStars Pro Martin Hruby, Sunday Million winner Michael "MAE9690" Eiler and 2009 EPT Deauville finalist Bruno Launais.

We'll be back at the Kursalon Palace tomorrow from noon CET - although owing to the clocks going back in Europe tonight, it might be an hour later than you expect. Your faithful reporters will be on the floor from then, and we'll be bringing you all the shoving, reraising and check-folding action you could possibly desire.

Seat 1: Luca Cainelli - 1,935,000
Seat 2: Daniel Negreanu - 5,070,000
Seat 3: Matthias Lotze - 1,210,000
Seat 4: Andreas Wiese - 730,000
Seat 5: Martin Hruby - 975,000
Seat 6: Konstantinos Nanos - 3,635,000
Seat 7: Michael Eiler - 2,160,000
Seat 8: Bruno Launais - 1,785,000

Kirill Zapletin Eliminated in 9th Place (€44,000)

Final Table Bubble Boy
Final Table Bubble Boy

It had to come sooner or later as Kirill Zapletin's stack started to get into that terrible shoving zone. When it did come Zapletin will be cursing his luck at the way it finally ended.

Bruno Launais opened with a raise and Zapletin shoved for the rest of his stack ~427,000 and Launais called.

Zapletin: {a-Diamonds} {k-Diamonds}

Launais: {a-Spades} {8-Clubs}

Flop: {4-Clubs} {3-Spades} {q-Hearts}

Turn: {4-Spades}

It looked certain that Zapletin was going to double up when...

River : {8-Spades}

Zapletin became our final table bubble boy with a tiny consolation of €44,000 and we have tomorrows final table

Eights Lucky for Hruby

Martin Hruby, reduced to his last 430,000, open-shoved from the cutoff. On the button, Konstantinos Nanos sighed, clapped his hands, and announced, "I call."

The blinds both folded, Hruby stood up, and the cards were on their backs.

Hruby: {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}
Nanos: {a-Hearts}{j-Spades}

Board: {9-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

Hruby's set of eights was pretty decisive, and the Czech Team PokerStars Pro sat back down as he doubled to 980,000. Nanos' stack dropped to 3.64 million.

Final Table Dress Rehearsal

We only have 9 players left and and therefore a dress rehearsal for tomorrow's final table of 8 players! Everyone will be desperate to get to that final table and the speed of the play and the exertion of pressure from the big stacks is demonstrating this.

Michael Eiler raised three times in succession. The first time he received a three-bet from Luca Cainelli and had to fold and then he picked up two uncontested pots. Then Andreas Wiese opened from the button to the tune of 135,000 and Konstantinos Nanos shoved all-in for 3.9 million causing Wiese to fold.

Other than that all is quiet on the Western front.

Errata

By the by, it has come to our attention that there are some errors in the chip counts which we and the TV folks have been receiving - we understand that Michael Eiler had 3.955 million when they went to a single table, not the 5.17 million reported, and there might have been another mistake or two in there as well. We're not permitted to approach the feature table to count them ourselves while they're filming, but please accept our apologies, and we'll do our best to sneak in there like ninjas at the break and clean them up.

Nanos Gets Better of Eiler

Konstantinos Nanos raised to 125,000 in the cutoff and got exactly one call, from Michael Eiler on the button. The two two of them saw a flop.

Flop: {6-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}

Nanos checked and Eiler unsurprisingly bet, to the tune of 155,000 - but Nanos now check-raised, making it 325,000 to go. Eiler called, and they proceeded to the turn.

Turn: {2-Hearts}

Nanos now led out for 480,000, and Eiler decided to give it a miss - he folded. Eiler dropped to 3.16 million. Nanos finished the hand on 3.95 million.

The Biggest Pot of the Tournament so Far - 3 Million. Who Won it?

Negreanu Takes the Biggest Pot of the Tourney so Far
Negreanu Takes the Biggest Pot of the Tourney so Far

Team Pokerstars Pro Daniel Negreanu won it and also takes over the chip lead at the same time. Michael Eiler opened from early position to 115,000 and Negreanu called from the cut-off. The flop was {8-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} and Eiler made a continuation bet of 155,000 and Negreanu called. The turn was {7-Clubs} and Eiler slow downed with a check and Negreanu took over the initiative in the hand when he bet 275,000 - Eiler called. The river was the {9-Spades} and again Eiler refused to let go of his brakes and checked. Negreanu made a huge bet of 905,000 and after Eiler dug deep into his tank he made the call which contributed to the biggest pot of the tournament so far. This was no consolation to Eiler though as Negreanu showed Eiler a full house with rolled up pocket sevens.
