Morten Erlandsen Eliminated in 10th Place (€44,000)

The unlucky Erlandsen
The unlucky Erlandsen

There is only one thing better than being good and that is being lucky and good. Team Pokerstars Pro Daniel Negreanu just eliminated Morten Erlandsen in 10th place and it will take some time for "Pokergirl1" to get over this one.

Erlandsen had just taken his seat on the feature table and must have thought that all his Christmases had come at once when Michael Eiler opened for 97,000, Negreanu called in the Small Blind and he looked down to see Pocket Aces. It looked just like the perfect opportunity for a squeeze steal play and he made it when he shoved for 646,000. Eiler got out of the way and Negreanu - telling Erlandsen that he had the better hand - called.

"I don't have the best hand?" Negreanu said when he saw the Rockets of Erlandsen, while he turned over pocket sevens.

Erlandsen was about to double up and just before the Dealer dealt the flop he asked him to "give me an Ace."

"An Ace?" enquired Negreanu.

Flop: {9-Spades} {j-Clubs} {6-Spades}

Nearly there...

Turn: {7-Diamonds}

So that's why he needed an Ace?

River: {3-Clubs}

And just like that Pokergirl1 was gone!

Lotze More

it's been a very good level for Matthias Lotze - from just 880,000 at the start of it, he's virtually doubled to more than 1.5 million.

The latest chunk of that arrived in his stack when he opened for 45,000 in the cutoff. Bruno Launais made it 205,000 from the button, but Lotze moved all in and Launais gave it up, leaving himself on 1.35 million.

Jose Severino Finishes in 11th Place (€32,000)

Jose Severino
Jose Severino

Michael Eiler rises ahead of the field dealing the final blow to Jose Severino. Severino, once briefly holding the chip lead himself (on Day One) found a reasonable spot to threebet Eiler all-in preflop (for a total of 655,000). Eiler had a genuine decision, and thought about it for a while before taking off his sunglasses (usually a sign of deadly seriousness). He called.

Eiler: {A-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Severino: {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds}

Flop: {9-Spades}{J-Hearts}{3-Hearts}
Turn: {6-Clubs}
River: {A-Clubs}

With that wince-inducing river, Severino was de-miked and exited stage left, while Erlandsen came over to take a spot on the feature table.

Eiler Takes the Chip Lead From the Feature Table

The new chip leader on the feature table
The new chip leader on the feature table

Michael Eiler has just taken over the chip lead on the feature table in an intriguing head to head confrontation with Team Pokerstars Pro Daniel Negreanu.

Luca Cainelli started it all off with a raise of 120,000. Negreanu called on the Button and Eiler made the numbers up from the Big Blind. There were three of them going to the flop with 400,000 up for grabs. The flop was {a-Spades} {3-Clubs} {7-Spades} and everyone checked. The turn was {j-Hearts} and Eiler bet 220,000 and Cainelli folded. Negreanu put his hand on his chin and made the call. There was 840,000 going to the river and it was the {q-Hearts}. Eiler now bet 547,000 to put Negreanu under pressure.

After a lot of dialogue from Negreanu he made the call and Eiler showed the nuts with {k-Spades} {10-Spades} and Negreanu mucked. Eiler takes over the chip lead.

Eiler ~ 3,410,000

Negreanu ~ 2,873,000

Short Stack Grinder of the Day Award

Morten Erlandsen
Morten Erlandsen

Goes to: Morten Erlandsen! Congratulations, Morten, you beat Surinder Sunar because you're still in (Sunar was Short Stack Grinder of the Tournament).

Erlandsen's stack almost looks like it's benefited from a full double-up, but it's a combination of small pots which have given him an extra 100k or so. He took 86k from Martin Hruby (plus the blinds and antes) by threebetting all in preflop, then followed it up with a minraise small to big blind. Big blind Nanos called the extra 40k but folded to Erlandsen's next 40k bet on the {2-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} flop.

Nanos Drops Lead

Konstantinos Nanos bet out on the river of a {2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} board. Matthias Lotze, his sole opponent in the hand, made a pretty big raise and Nanos made the call, but mucked immediately and in rather businesslike fashion as Lotze turned over {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a flush.

Lotze is up to 1.2 million, and we believe that this little hit to Nanos' stack means that Daniel Negreanu is now the chip leader.

Morten Danger

Chip daddy Konstantinos Nanos made it 85,000 under the gun and both Andreas Wiese (button) and Morten Erlandsen (big blind) called the raise.

Erlandsen and Nanos checked the {5-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} flop around to Wiese, who bet 150,000. Erlandsen, who had only 400,000 remaining, thought about it for some time, but eventually folded. Nanos folded too, and Wiese showed them {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} to prove that he hadn't been at it.

The unhappy Erlandsen was afterwards asking us what the shortest stack at the feature table - we had to give him the bad news that the shortest stack up there is the 600,000 or so belonging to Kirill Zapletin, meaning that Erlandsen is indeed our official shortie right now.

A Successful Trap but an Unsuccessful Result

Luca Cainelli
Luca Cainelli

Michael Eiler just set the perfect trap when he limped in the Small Blind with pocket Queens and Luca Cainelli shoved from the Big Blind with 904,000. Eiler called and Cainelli's tournament life was hanging by a thread.

Board: {a-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {5-Clubs}

Cainelli hit his Ace. Only a Queen could eliminate him now. Turn {6-Diamonds} and river {8-Hearts} no good for the unfortunate Eiler and Cainelli doubles up.

Cainelli ~ 1,828,000

Eiler ~ 2,299,000

Non-TV Table's Chip Counts

Two hands in a row Konstantinos Nanos raised to 85k preflop and was threebet off it (once by Bruno Launais who made it 225k with over 900k back, and once by Matthias Lotze who just moved all-in next to him). Still he tops the chip counts, always a nose ahead of Daniel Negreanu today, starting from the first shuffle. It remains to be seen if he will still be at the top of the pile at the end of the day.
