The Alpine Palace
The Alpine Palace

Welcome back to Day 1b of EPT Snowfest where we're expecting 200+ players for the second day in the glorious mountains of Austria.

Among those playing today will be, EPT Winner Kevin McPhee, Team PokerStars Pros Liv Boeree, Julien Brecard (whose birthday it is today) as well as Jan Heitmann and George Danzer. The last of these playing his first poker event since the WSOP main event last year.

182,500 is the target today for anyone who wishes to overtake last night's chip leader Martins Adeniya, the youngster another of the impressive British contingent who are currently taking the world by storm.

The schedule is the same as yesterday, we'll be playing six levels then a 90 minute dinner break before the final two levels, finishing just after midnight tonight. Play begins at 14.00 CET, in around 40 minutes and we'll have all the news from the tournament.

In the meantime, we'll avalanche...err...I mean have lunch.

Shuffle Up & Deal!

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Following a short video commemorating the life of Gianni Giaroni (a little more on that to follow), the cards are in the air.

Awesome Seat Draw of the Day

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Team PokerStars Pros Liv Boeree and Luca Pagano have been seated at the same table, along with EPT Berlin champion Kevin MacPhee. Like at the PokerStars welcome party the other night, expect fireworks.

A Moving Tribute to Gianni Giaroni

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Before the tournament dealers were ordered to shuffle up and deal, tournament director Thomas Kremser first made the sad announcement of the death of the popular Italian poker player, Gianni Giaroni.

Giaroni was known as "The Professor" and one of the most popular players on the Italian and European tournament circuits. During his career he won more than $1,100,000 but also won a place in many of his fellow players' hearts.

Italian Team PokerStars Pro, Luca Pagano said a few words in Italian in remembrance of Giaroni before a short video clip was played on the large screens around the room showing Giaroni in action at the felt sporting his trademark smile.

As the screen displayed "Ciao Giaroni" the room burst into a round of applause in honour of one of the nicest men to have played the game of poker.

Gianni Giaroni who passed away on March 11 after a short and sudden illness.

Tightly Packed

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

At the moment, all the tables in the conference room where the tournament is being held are full. In fact, tournament staff are dashing to bring an extra two to three tables, it looks like we will have almost 300 players today, a huge increase from yesterday.

Some Very Tough Tables

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

A quick scout around the extremely full tournament floor reveals some extremely tough starting tables for some of the players.

Over on table 20 we have Team PokerStars pro Matthias De Meulder and Aussie Millions Main Event runner-up James Keys whilst table 21 is the home to Britain's John Eames, Sofia 'welllbet' Lövgren and current leader in the EPT Player of the Year race, Fernando Brito.

However, these tables all pale into insignificance when you compare it to table 13, quite an ironic number when you read who is seated there. EPT Berlin winner Kevin MacPhee is being kept company by none other than EPT Tallin champion Kevin Stani, James Sudworth, Luca Pagano and Europe's leading lady, EPT San Remo winner Liv Boeree. Ouch
