Arnaud Mattern's fortunes have been somewhat up and down since the start of the day. After finding his stack bisected in the first level, he found himself up to a well above average 45,000 - and then right back down to a below average 29,000.
First the up - Mattern opened with the classic raising hand and was reraised by a player whom he later described as a "nit". Mattern check-called 3,000 on the flop and then both players checked on the bricky turn. The river brought in Mattern's flush and he finally bet out 6,500 which his opponent called, and then mucked his hand.
But then came the down - Mattern lost what he would only describe as a coinflip, and is now back down to 29,000. He's now headed off to dinner, along with half the field.
An extended preflop raising war ultimately went Diego Brunelli's way and the PokerStars Team Online member is now back above his starting stack on 34,000. The action went as follows:
Michael Skender: made the opening raise (amount missed).
Brunelli: reraised to 2,000.
Skender: four-bet to 5,100 with 19,500 behind.
Brunelli: tanked for a while and then five-bet to 15,000.
Skender: removed his sunglasses, folded, and announced, "Nice."
American/Slovenian/Australian EPT fixture Casey Kastle is having rather a good day.
Riccardo Lacchinelli opened to 950 but Kastle made it 2,500 from the button. Cornel Cimpan in the small blind rather unexpectedly called, Lacchinelli less unexpectedly called too, and they saw a flop.
The flop proved uninspiring to Kastle's opponents. It checked around to Kastle who bet 3,000, and it was enough to push both his opponents off the hand. The apparent citizen/resident of many different nations is up to 47,000.
With the big blind sitting out, Nicolas Levi opened to 800 from early position and received calls from Albert Winchester and Gerado Muro before Viktor Blom made it 3,200 in the small blind.
Levi studied Blom's remaining stack before reraising to 8,000 with Winchester and Muro quickly got out the way as did Blom, the Swede has just 8,000 left. Levi up to 48,000.
The skill level on the Inizan/Soulier table just went up a notch after the introduction of Natalia Nikitina and EPT Vienna winner Michael Eiler. It was actually Eiler who ended Inizan's hope of an EPT title when they clashed in the following hand.
Eiler raised to 750 on the button and Marc Inizan three-bet from the small blind when he made it 2,175 to play. Eiler asked Inizan for a count and Inizan politely moved out of the way to allow the German to have a peek. Eiler then withdrew his original 750 bet in one scoop and replaced it with a bet of 9,025. Inizan drew his line in the sand and moved all-in and Eiler snap-called.
Eiler:

Inizan was eliminated and Eiler now has 91,575 and is one of our chip leaders.
Fabrice Soulier and Marc Inizan just had a joust with Inizan coming out the winner.
We joined the action on a board of with 5,050 in the pot. Inizan was in the big blind and he bet 3,075 and Soulier called. The river was the and both players checked.
Inizan flipped over and Soulier mucked his hand unseen.
