Day 3 Completed

That's the End of Day 3; 26 Remain, Potijk Leads

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 1,000 ante
Geert-Jan Potijk leading the way
Geert-Jan Potijk leading the way

The PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT Grand Final Main Event stormed through Day 3 and the final 26 players remain. It was a spectacular day on the felt and one that saw the bubble burst, the €100,000 Super High Roller winner make an extremely impressive deep run and Geert-Jan Potijk claim the chip lead with 1.32 million in chips.

When the day began, 130 players remained and the money line was set at 96. Due to a double elimination with one player falling at two separate tables during hand-for-hand play, Adam Levy was the bubble boy in 98th place. Andrew Badecker and Martin Finger were the two players eliminated during the same hand of hand-for-hand action and chopped up the €15,000 awarded to the first payout spot.

Six Team PokerStars Pros made the money today, but none of them made it to Day 4. Nacho Barbero, Angel Guillen, Sandra Naujoks, Max Martinez, Richard Toth and Matthias De Meulder all finished with a cash, but the dream of becoming EPT Grand Final champion is dead for this year.

Other notables eliminated on the day, but in the money, included Bryan Piccioli, Guillaume Darcourt, Erik Seidel and Griffin Benger.

Day 4 will commence at 12:00 PM local time here in Monaco. The plan is to whittle the field down to the final table of eight, so however long that takes, PokerNews will be here. Be sure to stay tuned to the action and we'll see you tomorrow.

Play to Conclude at the End of This Level

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

The tournament directors have shown some discretion to all involved and have said that play will conclude at the end of this level (roughly 15 minutes) even if we don't lose two more players.

This is just as well as the action is so dry, and understandably so as everyone is very tired.

A Quick Collection of Hands

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Sergio Castelluccio raised to 36,000 in the small blind and Ben Vinson called in the big blind. The flop was {Q-Clubs} {9-Spades} {5-Hearts} and Vinson took the pot with an uncontested 42,000 bet.

-

Sergio Castelluccio raised to 32,000 in the cutoff, Georges Dib called in the small blind as did Amit Makhija in the big blind. The flop was {9-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} and the action checked to Castelluccio who bet 35,000. Back to Dib and he check-raised to a clean 100,000. Makhija was in one hell of a funk as he tanked for a long while before eventually making the call. Castelluccio folded and that was the end of the action. Both the {K-Hearts} and {10-Diamonds} was checked through and both players split the pot holding ace-nine.

-

Vadzim Markushevski raised to 32,000 in the cutoff, Tudor Grangure three-bet to 88,000 on the button and Markushevski four-bet to 180,000 to put an end to the action.

-

Fady Kamar raised to 36,000 in early position and Bernard Guigon defended his big blind. The action checked through to the river on a board of {A-Spades} {Q-Spades} {6-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} and Kamar took the pot with {K-Hearts} {J-Spades}; Guigon tabled {K-Clubs} {9-Diamonds}.

Franck Blanc Has Been Eliminated

Jason Wheeler is a dream stealer today. His latest victim is Franck Blanc and this is how the end came for the larger than life Frenchman.

We joined the action on a flop of {8-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} between Franck Blanc and Clayton Mozdzen. Mozdzen held {10-Spades} {10-Hearts} and Blanc was chasing the flush draw holding {K-Hearts} {4-Hearts}. The heart never materialised and as Mozdzen moved up to 710,000, Blanc moved down to 235,000.

Then a few hands later Jason Wheeler opened up in 2nd position with {10-Spades} {10-Clubs} and Blanc moved all-in from the button with {K-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}. The board ran out {7-Hearts} {7-Spades} {4-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {A-Spades} and Blanc was out. Wheeler glides up to 870,000.

Bonomo's Double Dream Over

Justin Bonomo started the level as the short stack with 125,000 and got his way all the way up to 418,000 and then it all went very wrong.

This happened on the TV table so the details are vague. What we do know is that Bonomo shoved for 554,000 before Geert-Jan Potijk and Andrew Pantling shoved behind.

Bonomo: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Potijk: {q-}{q-}
Pantling: {a-}{k-}

We didn't catch the board but it seemed to run blank.
