Chartier Picking Up Momentum

Sam Chartier
Sam Chartier

We just watched Sam Chartier pick up two hands and move himself up near 400,000 in chips. The first hand was against Gus Hansen and the second against Erik Seidel.

On the first one, Hansen check-called a bet of 33,000 from Chartier on the {10-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{6-Hearts} board before seeing the {2-Diamonds} land on the river. Hansen checked again and Chartier jammed all in for 89,600. After a long tank from Hansen, the call was made. Chartier tabled the {5-Hearts}{5-Spades} for a full house and Hansen mucked his hand.

Shortly after that, Chartier was up against Seidel on the {J-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} board. He check-called a bet of 50,200 from Seidel before firing 122,000 on the {10-Spades} river. Seidel gave it up and Chartier won the pot.

Jason Mercier Eliminated by Dan Smith

Mercier and Sammy The Seahorse during happier days.
Mercier and Sammy The Seahorse during happier days.

Dan Smith has just eliminated the man currently ranked number one in the Global Poker Index - Jason Mercier. We joined the action at the death knell with the board displaying {4-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {5-Spades}. Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier had bet 18,000 and Dan Smith had moved all-in. Mercier called and then mucked his cards, unseen, after Smith turned over {5-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} for the full house. Mercier handed all of his stack to Smith including Sammy the Seahorse.

"Don't give him that bad luck charm," said Negreanu as Mercier left the table.

Listening to the table talk we do not expect Mercier to buy back in.

It's a Barn Burner

Bill Perkins raised to 5,500 in the hijack seat and Mike McDonald called in the small blind. The pair were soon staring at a flop of {J-Spades} {J-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} and McDonald check-called a 8,000 Perkins bet. The {A-Hearts} raised its head on fourth street and Perkins immediately announced, "16,000."

"It's a barn burner," said Perkins before finishing with, "let's go," very quietly.

"What?" Said McDonald as he made the call.

River: {Q-Diamonds}

Both players check and Perkins shows {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds} to win the pot.

Tony G Winning Another Pot

Tony G raised to 6,000 in first position, Anton Allemann called on the button before Philipp Gruissem three-bet to 24,000 in the small blind. Neither player were frightened by the raise and three people saw the flop and turn which were both checked through - {A-Spades} {9-Hearts} {8-Spades} {9-Clubs}. The only action of the hand came on the river {7-Diamonds}. The action checked to Allemann who bet 36,000, Gruissem folded but Tony G called.

"I think you've got it," laughed Alleman as he turned over the lowly looking {4-Clubs} {2-Clubs}.

Tony G turned over {J-Spades} {J-Hearts} to win the pot.

"Would you have called if I had called?" Asked Gruissem and Tony G shook his head indicating that he wouldn't have called.

Perkins Going for Second Bullet

Bill Perkins has been eliminated. When we caught up with the action, there was a massive pot in the middle of the table between Perkins and Team PokerStars Pro Jonathan Duhamel. The board read {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{7-Spades}{4-Hearts} and Perkins check-called all in. Duhamel tabled the {K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} for trip kings and Perkins mucked his hand.

Almost immediately, Perkins found the VIP Host and asked how to rebuy. He had another €100,000 wired over and will be back in this thing shortly.
