Day 2 Comes to an End, Adeniya Clear of the Field

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Martins Adeniya
Martins Adeniya

Day 2 of the PokerStars.fr EPT Deauville played out over six 75-minute levels today and the field was reduced greatly. Day 1 is all about survival whereas day 2 is seen as a day to move up through the field.

Martins Adeniya moved himself all the way to the top of the pack and bagged up 512,200, up from 115,200 at the beginning of play. Other players who moved up well today included Brahim Oubella (452,000) Ludovic Lacay (377,300), [Removed:167] (363,600), and Chris Brammer (321,900).

It will come as no surprise to see Luca Pagano still in. The Team PokerStars Pro is in fact the only Team Pro left and is an almost unmovable force through these stages of an EPT. He will be looking for a record extending 20th cash. He bagged up 172,400 for a little more than the average.

Those extra chips had to come from somewhere though. Amir Salhani was the clear chip leader coming into today but he departed four levels into today. Nacho Barbero lost his six-figure stack within the first level, and he was joined for an early bath by Kevin MacPhee and Arnaud Mattern, both former EPT champions.

It was bad day, all-in-all, for former EPT champions as well as Team PokerStars Pro. Liv Boeree, Jake Cody, and Zimnan Ziyard won’t be the long-awaited double EPT winners. Matthias De Meulder, Vanessa Rousso, Marcin Horecki, Fatima Moreira de Melo, and Henrique Pinho all had days to forget.

Play will begin at midday CET tomorrow and we fully expect the field to shrink enough to burst through the bubble. A total of 128 players will be guaranteed a minimum €7,500.

Adeniya Stacked

Brit Martins Adeniya has built a towering stack of just under 500,000 chips here in the late stages of Day 2.

But the EPT London 7th Place finisher still has his foot on the gas as play winds down for the night.

We caught him three-betting a 4,100 open from one opponent, making it 11,500.

After getting a fold, he added a few more chips to his massive stack.

He Called and It's All Over Baby

1998 WSOP Main Event Champ Scotty Nguyen was down to just a few chips and his chair when he looked down at jacks and shipped it in.

"Come on, baby," the Prince of Poker whined when no one at the table mustered up the stones to call.

Taking the blinds and antes had pushed him up to around 25k when he looked down again, found queens and tried a a second time.

This time he got what he wanted as one player looked him up with {k-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}.

But Scotty should be more carefull about the things he wishes for.

The flop fell {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}{9-Spades} and a dejected Nguyen continued moaning.

"Come on, baby," he quietly cried as the {3-Diamonds} turn and {j-Diamonds} river sent him to the rail.

The Last Woman Standing

While a good number of French women turned up for this EPT Deauville Main Event, and a host of female Team PokerStars Pros like Vanessa Rousso, Ana Marquez, Vanessa Selbst and Liv Boeree all played, it appears just one woman remains in the field at this point.

She is Lucille Cailly, a French player with close to $100k in career live tournament earnings including a 47th place finish right here at EPT Deauville back in 2010.

As Day 2 winds down, Cailly is sitting on a 180k stack and it appears she's at least making a run at besting her finish from two years ago.
