Tales From Table 23

Table 23 is one of the most stacked tables in the room so we thought we'd stand by the table for a few hands to see what occurred:

  • Matthias De Meulder and Zimnan Ziyard had made it to the river with 6,200 in the middle. The board read {2-Spades}{k-Hearts}{q-Spades}{a-Hearts}{6-Clubs} and the Belgian Team PokerStars Pro led for 2,500. Ziyard raised to 7,200 and took the pot as De Meulder tank-folded.
  • De Meulder raised to 525 from under the gun and picked up two callers. The flop fell {8-Hearts}{q-Spades}{k-Spades} and a Marco Leonzio bet for 1,850 from the button folded out his two opponents.
  • Fatima Moreira de Melo raised from under-the-gun and took the blinds and antes.
  • Luigi Pignataro raised to 525 from the cut-off and folded when Moreira de Melo three-bet to 1,700 from the big blind.
    Not that exciting really but that is the reality of live deep stack MTT poker. A lot of patience is needed to become a success.

Tureniec's Tournament Is Over

Michael Tureniec will not become the first-ever double EPT champion as he has just been sent to the rail by Felix Bleiker.

We joined the action on the {8-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{A-Diamonds} flop with Tureniec having checked, from the big blind, to Bleiker on the button who had moved all in for around 19,000, which covered the Swede's stack. Tureneic, void of his trademark oversized shades, sat completely motionless for at least 90-seconds before verbally announcing "I call."

Tureniec: {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}
Bleiker: {A-Spades}{8-Spades}

Tureniec did not look happy at all and before the dealer started to deal the turn and river, which were the {2-Diamonds} and {6-Clubs} respectively, he had already started to gather his belongings. "Well done," said Tureneic as he shook the hand of Bleiker and he headed to the rail.

Russian to Make the Call

Michael Eiler had four-bet to 4,025 over a three bet in position from Alexander Nudin but the Russian then five-bet to 8,900 to put the onus back on Eiler. The German responded after about a minute by moving all in and Nudin instantly called at which point Eiler knew he was in trouble, but he was probably better than he thought given the speed of the call.

Nudin: {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}
Eiler: {J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

Eiler got out of his seat before the {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} was even dealt, shook the hand of his assassin before leaving the table.

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Stefan Huber opened the betting to 500 and when former EPT London champion David Vamplew folded another former EPT champion, this one the Vienna leg, Michael Eiler three-bet to 1,400. To Eiler's direct left was Giuseppe Dario Sammartino and he made the call but when the action folded back around to the original raiser he soon got out of the way.

Flop: {4-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} - Eiler continued with a 1,725 bet and after a brief pause Sammartino mucked.

Meulder He Wrote

Mattias De Meulder raised to 525 preflop and Fatima Moreira de Melo made the call before Victor Ramdin made it 1,650 behind them. Both called to see a {K-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop which was checked to Ramdin, the latter betting 2,300 - De Meulder called and de Melo folded.

Both players checked the {Q-Spades} turn and then De Meulder fired out 6,000 on the {Q-Spades} river - Ramdin tanked and eventually made the call.

"Eights," sighed the Belgian as Ramdin turned over {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} to take the pot.

Boujenah Goads

Ilan Boujenah still hasn't calmed down completely and hasn't forgotten Konstantin Puchkov's role in that controversial hand.

Wang Chaofei opened to 450 from mid position and called when three-bet to 1,500 from mid position. The flop came {k-Hearts}{5-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and Chaofei check-called a 450 c-bet from the Israeli before both checked the {9-Hearts} turn. The river was {a-Diamonds} and Chaofei led for 3,300. Boujenah called and mucked upon seeing his opponent's {8-Spades}{9-Spades}.

Boujenah then turned to Puchkov and said, "He he he, are you happy?. Did you see, I lost a pot!"

Eames Eliminated

John Eames has been knocked out after getting it all in on the turn of a {A-}{8-}{4-}{8-}{10-} board with {4-}{4-} in a three-bet pot, unfortunately for him though, his opponent was holding {A-}{A-} for a bigger full house and Eames could catch the case four on the river.

Eames said, "He played it too fast and that's what got me, if he'd just called my turn bet then I would've been able to bet/fold the river..."
