No Customers For Shorr

Shannon Shorr is one of the most respected poker players in the field here at EPT Prague. The Alabama native has live tournament scores dating back six years, cashes that add up to almost $4,500,000.

Amazingly, Shorr only has one EPT Main Event cash and that came back in 2006 when he 21st at EPT London. He will be hoping to improve on that record during this week.

If Shorr is to cash for the second time in an EPT Main Event, he is going to need to add to his stack and take down some pots as he is playing from a stack that is around 2/3 the average. Just now, the impeccably dressed Shorr opened to 1,100 from the hijack and only picked up the blinds and antes.

Shorr will continue to chip away at his opponents and make a nuisance of himself for as long as he has chips, that is for certain.

"I Prefer Russian"

Yesterday Tony Chang placed fourth in the World Poker Tour Prague Main Event for €101,800, and today he's seeking even more success in the city and is in hot pursuit of his first European Poker Tour title.

In a recent hand, there was around 20,000 in the pot and a board reading {5-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}. Before Chang had a chance to act in the under-the-gun position, Alexey Andreev moved all in out of turn for just over 44,000.

Chang didn't seem happy his turn was skipped, and the dealer promptly informed him that action was still on him. If he were to check, Andreev's bet would stand, but if he bet a small amount Andreev would be able to take it back and regain all options. Chang pondered for a long time and even tried striking up a conversation.

"Do you speak English?" Chang asked his opponent.

"A little, but I prefer Russian," Andreev said. The small Russian conjured up images of 2002 World Series of Poker champ Robert Varkonyi, and he seemed more than willing to make the table laugh.

Chang continued to mull over his options and finally asked if Andreev would show his cards if he folded. A language barrier existed, but Andreev seemed to understand. "You call with chips you see, or you fold and I show you after," he said.

Chang did fold, and Andreev stood by his word and tabled {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}. Despite that loss, Chang is still doing better than the last time we checked in on him and is in good shape to make Day 2; likewise, Andreev is doing well with 67,000.

Berglund Busts Out

Former WPT Barcelona champion Lukas Berglund has just been eliminated from the EPT Prague main event. Whilst we did not see the hand take place, we did see the Swede heading for the exits with his belongings in tow, which strongly suggests his tournament life has come to an end.

Rodriguez Over 200K

Rodriguez wins a massive pot
Rodriguez wins a massive pot

Luis Rodriguez had a four-bet of 11,000 sitting in front of him when we reached Table 24, and Makarios Avramidis, the presumed three-bettor, called in position.

The flop fell {5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, and Rodriguez paused for a bit before tossing out 13,800.

"Call," Avramidis spat immediately.

The turn was the {9-Hearts}, and again Rodriguez sat quietly for 30 seconds or so. He then reached for chips, and pushed forward 23,100.

"Call," Avramidis repeated.

A third ten - the {10-Spades} - completed the board, and Rodriguez sat silently.

"All in," he said so quietly that only the dealer could hear him. She echoed the bet, and there was a short beat before Avramidis announced, "call," wagering the remainder of his 50,000-chip stack.

Rodriguez quickly turned over {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} for tens full of aces, and Avramidis showed {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} for a lesser full house. After the stacks were quickly counted down, Avramidis exited the room, and Rodriguez pulled in a wave of multi-colored chips.

He now sits with over 200,000 chips.

Eames Takes On Ramage

John Eames and Grayson Ramage will no doubt have tussled with each other many times in the online poker world, and now they are seated at each other's table here in picturesque Prague.

It was Ramage who opened the betting with a raise to 1,200 from under the gun, a bet that only Eames — seated three seats to Ramage's left — called. The pair shared a {q-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{a-Hearts} flop, Ramage checked and Eames checked behind.

The turn brought the {4-Spades} into play and now Ramage lead, making it 1,600 to play. Eames raised to 5,000 and Ramage went into the tank. For the first time in the hand Ramage looked away from the table and glanced at Eames. Then he grabbed a handful of green chips, gave them a riffle and put them back in his stack. After 30-40 seconds of thinking about what the best course of action was, Ramage folded and left Eames to pick up the pot.

Palovic Prized Away From the Tournament

Dag Palovic
Dag Palovic

Slovakia's Team PokerStars Pro Dag Palovic is no more. Don't worry, he's not dead or anything, he just has no more chips to play with.

Prague has special memories for the former child TV presenter as he first made his mark on the poker world in this very room, coming 7th for €93,600 at the first ever EPT held here in Season 4.

Dmitry Bayramov opened from the hijack and called when Palovic shoved for around 6,000 from the next seat.

Bayramov: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Palovic: {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}

The board ran {3-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{8-Spades}{10-Clubs} to see the Russian's hand hold up.

Peters' Little Sweat

David Peters opened to 1,100 in middle position, an opponent called on the button, and Ville Mattila moved all in for 11,700 from the big blind. Peters studied Mattila's stack, then re-shoved. The player on the button instantly folded.

Peters: {a-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Mattila: {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

Peters was well ahead, but right before the dealer spread the flop, the {6-Diamonds} peaked through the window. The following card was the {10-Spades} though, giving Peters the lead once again, and the third card on the flop was the {2-Hearts}. The turn was three-sided, but the {7-Diamonds} did not give Mattila three sixes, and the {j-Clubs} bricked on the river.

He was eliminated, while Peters increased his stack to 36,000.

"Nice doorcard, eh?" Fisnik Krasniqi asked Peters.

"Gotta have a little sweat," he answered, grinning.
