The Power Of The Four Bet

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

The average stack is currently a shade over 56 big blinds, plenty of room for four-betting then, as two different players proved.

From under-the-gun Karel Kratochvil opened to 12,000, two seats along Stefan Vagner three-bet to 26,000 and next to act, Andrea Benelli made it 44,000 from the hijack. It passed back to Kratochvil he folded but Vagner made the call. The flop fell {K-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, Vagner checked, Benelli fired out 55,000 and after a brief think Vagner folded and preserved his 158,000 stack.

A couple of tables over Jorma Nuutinen raised to 12,000 from the cut-off, Emmanuel Francois Murcia three-bet to 29,000 from the button and Lasell King then cold four-bet to 65,000 from the big blind. Nuutinen folded but Murcia stuck around to see a {6-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{9-Hearts} flop. A continuation bet of 60,000 from King was enough to win the pot.

Pietrzak Survies

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Piotr Robert Pietrzak put it all on the line with his last 55,000 chips and was called in the big blind by Stefan Vagner who flipped over {a-Clubs}{3-Spades}. Pietrzak said he really didn’t want a call as he revealed his {2-Spades}{2-Diamonds}. But in the end he was happy to get one as the board ran out {k-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts}{4-Hearts} to double him up as Vagner took another hit.

Marquez Bags a Big One on Saffari

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Sebastian Saffari
Sebastian Saffari

Action exploded on a {7-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop between Sebastian Saffari and Ana Marquez that resulted in the former getting his stack in the middle.

He held both straight and flush draws with the {10-Spades}{8-Spades}, and he'd need to hit one to overcome the {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} of Marquez. The {k-Hearts} turn was no help to Saffari, and neither was the {2-Hearts} river. He was clearly disappointed to miss his plethora of outs and quietly made his way to the payout desk.

"Do you always have the aces?" another players asked a smiling Marquez.

"I had ace-jack once," Jonathan Little, who was seated to the right of Marquez, chimed in.

The River

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Karel Kratochvil, playing on home soil, opened from the cut-off to 12,000. Stefan Vagner called in the small blind as did big blind Andrea Benelli. The three players saw a flop of {3-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Clubs}. Checked to the raiser, Kratochvil bet 16,000. Vagner called and Benelli folded. Turn {10-Clubs} was checked by both players and we saw a river {k-Hearts}. Vagner checked and faced a bet of 33,000 from Kratochvil. Vagner called and mucked in frustration when he saw the {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}.

Little Gets Three Streets of Value

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Sebastian Saffari limped in from the small blind and called as Jonathan Little made it 16,000 from the big blind. The flop came {J-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{5-Spades} and Saffari checked to Little. The American player bet out 16,000 once more and Saffari called.

The turn brought the {2-Hearts} on the table and Saffari now check called a 36,000 bet from his neighbor. The river, to make the board complete, was the {8-Clubs} and Saffari checked again. Little made it 58,000 by sliding two new yellow 25,000 chips, a blue 5,000 and three red 1,000 chips forward. Saffari shook his head but called after some thinking.

Little immediately turned over {4-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and Saffari mucked.
