Blom Busts Berende and Grabs The Lead

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Viktor Blom
Viktor Blom

Paul Berende had already dropped down to 130,000 when the following hand occurred. From middle position he raiesd to 4,200 and Manfred Sierke called in the seat to his left. Full Tilt's Professional Viktor Blom squeezed from the small blind to 15,600 and the action was back on Berende.

Berende decided to put in a four-bet to 34,200 and that got Sierke to fold. Blom tanked for a very long time, asked how much Berende had behind, and then made the call.

The flop brought {4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and Blom checked to Berende who bet 30,000. Blom tanked for quite some time again and moved all in. Even before Blom had moved his chips across the line it was Berende who made the call.

Paul Berende: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Viktor Blom: {7-Spades}{8-Spades}

Blom had a gutshot and the hopes of hitting either a seven or an eighth but the turn brought the {10-Clubs}. The river brought the {6-Clubs} and Berende could do nothing but laugh about the way this huge pot played out.

As Berende left the table Blom said, "Hey Paul, I'm sorry man."

"No man, it's okay. Good luck in the tournament," Berende said as a true gentleman before exiting the tournament area.

Here, Kitty Kitty

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Before the break, Kitty Kuo had an opponent all in and at risk preflop:

Kuo: {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Opponent: {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

Kuo was well behind, and remained behind after the flop ({7-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{2-Spades}) and the turn ({2-Spades}), but the {a-Clubs} spiked on the river. Kuo eliminated her opponent with a pair of aces, and now sits with 240,000 chips.

No Blain, No Gain

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

With Anael Dossevi already in preflop, Shahaf Hadaya was tanking on the turn of a {2-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{10-Hearts} board as Dermot Blain had moved all in. Hadaya was put on the clock but in the end opted for a call.

Hadaya: {2-Spades}{2-Clubs}
Dossevi: {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
Blain: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}

The river was the {9-Diamonds} pairing the board and Hadaya scooped the lot as a very disappointed Blain was forced to leave muttering to himself.

Legend vs. Legend

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Mike McDonald and Philipp Gruissem have a combined $8.5 million in career live tournament earnings, and they're also sitting at the same table here at The Vic.

In a recent hand, McDonald opened to 4,800 from the cutoff, Gruissem defended out of the big blind, and the dealer fanned {a-Hearts}{4-Spades}{6-Diamonds}. Gruissem checked, McDonald continued for 6,600, and Gruissem called.

The turn was the {q-Diamonds}, both players knuckled, and the {7-Clubs} completed the board. Gruissem tossed out 17,000, and McDonald mucked his hand.

Gruissem now sits with 180,000 chips, while McDonald slipped just below 400,000.

Sarwer Bluffing with the Best Hand

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Jeff Sarwer got one through
Jeff Sarwer got one through

Marc Wright seemed ever so close to calling with (what he said was) king high and he would've been right as Jeff Sarwer (his opponent in the hand) was bluffing with {q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}.

The hand started with a mid position raise to 5,100 from Sarwer and a big blind peel from Wright. The flop fanned {9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and Wright check-called a 5,200 c-bet. Sarwer got confused when Wright led out for 11,700 on the {7-Hearts} turn but he called nonetheless.

On the {6-Diamonds} river Wright checked to face a 16,800 bet from Sarwer. After looking like he was going to call, Wright passed and was snap shown the queen-high by Sarwer.

"Would've been so sick if I called" said Wright. "I had king high," he added when Sarwer asked if he had ace- high.

The Barer of Bad News

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Ami Barer moved all in for his final 15,700 preflop and Steve Jelinek called from the cutoff. Barny Boatman then reraised to 41,000 on the button. Chris Moorman thought for a minute before folding in the small blind and Jelinek folded {A-Spades}{J-Diamonds} face up.

Barer: {8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}
Boatman: {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}

The flop brought something for everyone coming {K-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} but the {2-Spades} turn and {9-Spades} river changed nothing and Boatman increased his stack.
