Eighters Gonna Eight

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Ooh, Walid Bou Habib, you lucky boy! Last year's runner-up in this event was all in preflop with {A-Hearts}{8-Hearts} against Dmitry Shchepkin's {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}.

The {5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop was promising, the {7-Diamonds} on the turn doubly so and the {6-Clubs} river made Habib an eight-high straight to survive.

English Please

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

An interesting four way hand developed between Martin Schleich, Pierre Calamusa, Yoni Journo and Philippe Ktorza. It was three-bet preflop and they saw a flop of {q-Hearts}{2-Spades}{q-Diamonds}. Pierre Calamusa decided to have a bet at it to the value of 4,000 but that didn’t deter any of the other three players. They saw a turn card {k-Clubs} which lead to a whole lot of checking and a river card {4-Spades}.

Philippe Ktorza was first to act in the big blind and threw out 10,200 getting rid of two players but seemingly leaving Yoni Journo with a dilemma. He puzzled it over for a while before relinquishing his cards. As Ktorza gathered the chips a conversation broke out in French which seemed to imply that Ktorza didn’t have a piece of the board and Journo feeling that he had been bluffed. Hard enough to tell who is telling the truth when it’s in English so what he had is anyone’s guess!

Lellouche Doing Not So Good

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Antony Lellouche has just lost back to back pots for vast chunks of his 175,000 stack that he had rapidly accumulated over the last hour or so.

First he lost with {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs} to Christian Aris' {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs} on a {J-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{6-Clubs} board for a 30,000 pot. Then in the very next hand, he lost with {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} to Romain Baert's {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} on a {10-Spades}{3-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{4-Spades} board for a 92,000 pot.

Lellouche finished second at EPT San Remo the year Jason Mercier won the event. Could this be his year?

Lellouche Doing Good

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Niels van Leeuwen won the PokerStars.fr FPS Main Event earlier this week, and ran good on day 1B yesterday as well. Today he ran into Antony Lellouche though in a big pot. Van Leeuwen three bet the French experienced pro with pocket jacks and a call followed. Lellouche check called a bet on {K-}{4-}{2-} and both players checked on the blank on the turn. The river was another blank and Lellouche bet big. Van Leeuwen made the call but his jacks were beat by Lellouche's {A-}{K-}.

Lellouche must have been winning more pots, he's up to almost 200,000.

Reporting from a Room Called Bond… James Bond

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Here in the Casino Barrière the meeting rooms are all named after movie characters, a nod to the famous film festival that descends upon Deauville each year. We are reporting on the tourney from a room (or "salle") called Bond… James Bond.

As it happens, the famous British Secret Service agent began his fictional life in a casino very similar to the one in which the tournament is being played. Ian Fleming introduced Bond in his 1953 novel Casino Royale, which is set in a northern France city (Royale-les-Eaux) based in large part on Deauville where Fleming gambled in a casino as a young man. Theissen Gets Unlucky to Bust

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Pre-flop Eric Theissen was in great shape to double up through Miroslav Alilovic but unfortunately for him there are also five community cards. Alilovic had opened to 2,200 from the cut-off with {A-Spades}{10-Spades}, Theissen had jammed for 28,700 from the small blind with [Ad{K-Hearts} and after thinking it over Alilovic called from a stack of 47,000 total. The {10-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{4-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop meant Theissen was drawing dead by the river.

Wetemans the Comeback Kid

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

EPT regular Jasper Wetemans already was the subject of several posts today, but his comeback is so impressive we have to write about him once again. At one point he had just 1,300 in chips left, now he has a staggering 72,000.

With a 35,700 stack he was seated in the big blind holding {A-}{Q-}. The button opened to 2,200 and Wetemans made it 5,500. The player on the button wasn't about to let his pocket eights go and just shoved all in. Wetemans made the call and hit the jackpot on the flop: {A-}{A-}{10-}.

Wetemans wasn't totally save yet, but the {Q-} on the turn secured his double up. The {3-} on the river couldn't save the button if his life depended on it, the Dutch player now has a way above average stack again.

Katchalov Donk Leads

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Yerai Iribarren opened the action for 2,000 and got two callers, Vincent Guillon sat to his left and in the big blind Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov. They saw a flop of {5-Spades}{q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}. Katchalov decided to take th initiative with a bet of 3,000. Iribarren made the call and Guillon opted out. The {6-Diamonds} on the turn was a check from Katchalov and a bet of 5,500 from Iribarren saw the chips heading his way.
