An Orbit w/ 2011 World Series of Poker Champ Pius Heinz

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Pius Heinz
Pius Heinz

Back in 2011, Pius Heinz topped a field of 6,865 players to win the World Series of Poker Main Event for $8,715,638. Since then Heinz has sort of dropped off the poker radar. That changed when he made an appearance at the EPT10 Vienna last month, and now he's back on the EPT here in Sanremo.

We don't get to watch Heinz in action much these days, so we took the opportunity to spend an entire orbit with him. Heinz, who is sporting a beard and grey cap, started the orbit with right around 35,000.

Hand #1 (Under the Gun): Heinz was first to act and folded his hand.

Hand #2 (Big Blind): Carsten Chylla opened for 500 under the gun and received a call from Carter Swidler. Italy's Vincenzo Scarpitti then came along, Heinz called from the big blind, and four players saw a flop of {7-Spades}{j-Spades}{3-Diamonds}.

Heinz was first to act and led out for 1,300, which inspired Chylla to fold. The other two players called, and the {7-Diamonds} appeared on the turn. Heinz bet again, this time 3,000, and Swidler quickly folded. Scarpitti then pushed back with a min-raise to 6,000, Heinz called, and it was heads-up action to the {9-Clubs} river.

Heinz slowed down with a check, and then wasted little time in folding to a bet of 7,000 from Scarpitti.

Hand #3 (Small Blind): A player in middle position opened for 425 and Heinz folded when action reached him.

Hand #4 (Button): The cutoff raised to 450 and Heinz folded.

Hand #5 (Cutoff): Action folded around to Heinz and he did the same. The big blind ended up getting a walk in the hand.

Hand #6 (Hijack): The under-the-gun player raised to 500 and Heinz ended up folding.

Hand #7 (Middle Position): Once again the under-the-gun player opened for 500 and Heinz ended up folding.

Hand #8 (Middle Position): A player in early position raised to 450 and Heinz folded.

Hand #9 (Early Position): The under-the-gun player folded and so did Heinz.

Aside from the second hand of the orbit, Heinz was in fold mode.

Meanwhile, both David Suarez and Patryk Poterek have both been eliminated from the tournament.

Jannick Wrang On The Rail

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

We do lose one of the former EPT Champions in today's field as Jannick Wrang has just been eliminated. After two limpers he moved all-in for ~ 9,000 chips with {A-}{K-} and got called by Filippo Bisciglia with {J-}{J-}. The board blanked for the Dane.

Danut Chisu has also been eliminated from the tournament.

Selbst Slips

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Giovanni Salvatore from Italy was in a pot with Vanessa Selbst. They had got to the river on a board reading {j-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{j-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and Salvatore checked it over to the aggressive American.

Selbst threw out a bet of 3,600 and Salvatore indicated a call by flicking a single chip on the felt. Selbst turned over the {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} and emitted a quick snort of disbelief as Salvatore turned over the winner {k-Hearts}{j-Clubs}.

The Hof Value Bets

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Natalie Hof
Natalie Hof

As we walked up to table 3 there were three players with cards in front of them, and the flop was already out on the table; {3-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{6-Spades}.

Carlos Sanchez Brito checked from the small blind and Natalie Hof checked her big blind. The third player involved checked as well and the dealer got busy dealing a turn; {J-Diamonds}.

Brito bet out 1,100. Hof made the call, the third player folded.

The {7-Hearts} hit the river to complete the board. Brito checked and Hof thought about betting. She reached for chips and placed 1,950 across the line. Brito instantly tossed in a single chip to make it known he was calling.

Hof looked kind of surprised and worried with the instant call, but there was no reason to. She tabled her {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} and Brito mucked.

Srinivasan In Charge Of The Table

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

PCA finalist Shyam Srinivasan just won the previous pot and then accelerated the action once again with a three-bet to 1,200. Initial raiser Imed Ben Mahmoud from Tunisia called to see the {K-Spades}{A-Clubs}{8-Hearts} flop where he check-called for 1,300. On the {10-Diamonds} he repeated this for another 2,300 in a rather unmotivated / frustrated way before checking the {4-Spades} river. Srinivasan made it 4,300 to go and the Tunisian check-folded the {A-Spades}.

Duhamel Displeased

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Jonathan Duhamel tangled again with the player who was the small blind in the previous hand, now on the button. Duhamel opened from the cut-off, was raised to 1,350 and when Duhamel made it 3,800 his opponent made the call. The blinds had folded at the first raise so it was a heads-up pot.

The flop was {9-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Hearts}. Both players checked to see the turn card come the {3-Spades}.

Duhamel led out for 3,300 and was called. The river was the {8-Diamonds} and when Duhamel checked his opponent moved all in for 15,000. Duhamel didn’t look too happy with this development and after a brief grimace his cards hit the muck.

Frankland Fires Five-Bet

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

UK PokerStars player Mathew Frankland opened for 450, and was raised by Team PokerStars Pro Jonathan Duhamel from the button to 1,500. The small blind then made it 3,600 and when the big blind folded the action was back on Frankland.

Frankland’s response was to fire out another raise to 7,800. A slight pause while Duhamel appeared to weigh up the situation but the bet got through the two other players and the pot was pushed to Frankland.
