Roberts Doubles Through Aghayev

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

We found Brian Roberts at risk with {3-Hearts}{3-Clubs}, having shoved for 70,000 from the big blind over a cutoff open from Emin Aghayev. Roberts led for the moment against {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, and the flop of {9-Hearts}{j-Spades}{2-Diamonds} kept him in front. He had more cards to dodge after the {8-Clubs} turn gave Aghayev a straight draw, but the {5-Diamonds} was a safe river.

Jean Montury
Jean Montury

Jean Montury, the inaugural EPT Malta Champion was all-in with {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and as up against his countryman Roman Paon in the big blind with {K-Hearts}{5-Clubs}.

The board ran out: {A-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{8-Spades}{4-Spades}{8-Clubs} and it was greeted with a smile by the former champion.

"I can wait two more hours now!" he said, raking in his chips.

Montury is one of a number of former EPT Champions in the field including Jason Mercier, Joao Barbosa and Dimitar Danchev.

America vs. Europe with Jeremy Ausmus

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Jeremy Ausmus is a long time poker pro and former member of the November Nine, and with him we discussed the differences between the United States and Europe. Ausmus doesn't love the coffee in Monte Carlo and the tournaments are tough but he's still having a good time at the EPT Grand Final.

Tsanev Coolered at the Feature Table

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Bulgaria's Nikolay Tsanev was just eliminated from the feature table courtesy of Jose Carlos Garcia.

We missed the early action, but we do know there was 409,000 in the pot and a flop of {7-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{3-Clubs} when Tsanev got his last 217,000 all in.

Tsanev: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Garcia: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

It was a cooler for Tsanev, and no miracle lady would appear as the {J-Clubs} blanked on the turn followed by the {2-Clubs} on the river.

Lucky Double for Neuville

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

We saw Lyndon Basha with 16,000 in front of him, Pierre Neuville with 39,000 all in, and Artur Koren with 133,000 all in. Basha thought about it for a bit, but eventually folded his hand.

Pierre Neuville: {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}
Artur Koren: {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}

The flop came {3-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{5-Spades}, prompting Koren to ask for a six to counterfeit Neuville's straight outs. The {8-Clubs} on the turn was a blank but the {2-Hearts} on the river wasn't and Neuville doubled.

Siebert Doubles Through, Eliminates Katchalov

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Eugene Katchalov
Eugene Katchalov

Eugene Katchalov shoved all in from early position for his last 56,000, and Immanuel Eike Siebert called off his identical stack on the button.

Katchalov: {k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Siebert: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

"I prefer to lose it to you," Katchalov said with a smile to the PokerStars qualifier.

It looked like a near certainty after the {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop. The {10-Spades} gave Katchalov a small chance.

"Not the sweat I wanted," he said, clearly having hoped for a diamond. "At least it's a sweat."

The {3-Spades} bricked the river, and the PokerStars Team Pro is done.

Gandini vs. Garcia

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Up at the feature table, Day 1a chip leader Jose Carlos Garcia opened for 13,000 from the button and was met by a three-bet to 87,000 by Filippo Gandini in the small blind. Garcia gave it some thought before making the call, and the cards were turned on their backs.

Gandini: {q-Spades}{10-Spades}
Garcia: {a-Spades}{4-Spades}

Gandini needed some help, and he got it when the {k-Spades}{j-Hearts}{9-Spades} flop gave him a straight. However, Garcia did pick up the better flush draw. The {K-Hearts} turn was safe for Gandini, and so was the {A-Hearts} river. Ship the double to the Italian.
