You Win Some, You Lose Some

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Byron Kaverman raised to 1,400 from the cutoff and nobody wanted to tangle with the inform American.

The following hand, Kaverman raised to 1,400 from the hijack seat and found a caller in the shape of Vladimir Troyanovskiy. A flop reading {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{J-Spades} was checked by both players, with the pair also checking the {A-Spades} turn. Troyanovskiy bet 1,500 on the {7-Spades} river, which saw Kaverman fold.

As Troyanovskiy added the chips to his stack, he and Kaverman share a wry smile with each other.

Three Late Registering Germans

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Although Day 1a ends shortly, three German high stakes specialists have bought in for 50 big blinds. Tobias Reinkemeier, Igor Kurganov and Thomas Muehloecker are all now competing in the Main Event, and we're sure to see them jump into the €25,000 Single Day High Roller on December 11, which you can follow on PokerNews.

The Last of the Level 7 Eliminations

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Hwang Building a Big Stack

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Andy Hwang, the man who eliminated Pierre Neuville earlier in the day, raised to 1,200 after action folded to him on the button.

Norway's Mikal Blomlie defended from the big, and then both players checked the {2-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop as well as the {10-Spades} turn. When the {4-Hearts} completed the board on the river, Blomlie led out for 2,150 and Hwang quickly folded.

It wasn't much of a hand, but it gave us a good excuse to tell you that Hwang, a World Poker Tour champion, has worked his stack up to 140,000.

Team PokerStars Pro Down a Man

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

We missed the elimination of Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier, but we learned details after the fact from his girlfriend, Natasha Barbour.

As she told it, Mercier jammed his last 4,400 from the hijack with the {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and received calls from the players in the cutoff and on the button, who both checked the {k-}{5-}{3-} rainbow flop. When a {Q-} appeared on the turn, the cutoff checked and then folded to a bet of 5,000 from the button, who had flopped a set with pocket fives.

The meaningless river was run out, and Mercier took his leave from the tournament. Something tells us that we'll see him tomorrow for the single-day €25,000 High Roller.

A Trio of Counts

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Lightbourne Shining Bright

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Iaron Lightbourne
Iaron Lightbourne

Iaron Lightbourne is full of confidence following his WPT UK Main Event win, as would you be, and is up to 74,000 here at EPT Prague.

Ilkin Amirov raised from early position and Lightbourne called from the big blind. The Brit then check-called a 1,100 bet from Amirov, which was the last of the betting action because the {10-Spades} turn and {4-Hearts} river got checked down. Lightbourne turned over the {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for two pair on a scary board, and Amirov mucked.

Chopping Up Barbour's Chips

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Natasha Barbour, the better half of Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier, raised to 1,000 under the gun and received a call from Spain's Carlos Vallve Arias in the cutoff. The UK's Scott Margereson then three-bet to 3,550 from the button, both blinds folded, and Barbour made the call. Arias then four-bet all in, Margereson moved in over the top, and Barbour got out of the way.

Arias: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Margereson: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

The two players held the same hand, and they ended up chopping the chips Barbour put in, as well as the blinds and antes, after the board ran out an uneventful {3-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{7-Spades}.
