127 Players Push Through to Day 3 With Ivan Banic In The Lead

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Day 2 of the 2016 PokerStars European Poker Tour Dublin Main Event came and went in a flash on the Emerald Isle on Tuesday.

A total of 341 survivors from the event's two starting days returned to the Royal Dublin Society with plans to battle it out through six 75-minute levels. Some 15 more entries were added to the mix before play started, and by the time the dust settled, 127 pushed through to Wednesday's Day 3.

With registration officially closed, prize pool information was released part way through the day. A grand total of 605 players meant a €2,934,250 prize pool was created that will pay 87 spots. A minumum cash is worth €9,100, the top six players will all earn six figures and Irish poker glory, and a €561,900 first-place prize awaits the winner.

The inside track on the title currently belongs to some pretty big names, as bosses like Anthony Zinno, Mike McDonald, and Dominik Panka all built big stacks heading into Day 3.

Team PokerStars Pros Luca Pagano, Liv Boeree, and PokerStars Team Online's Jaime Staples and Mickey Petersen also remain in contention, but the end-of-day chip leader was none other than Croatia's Ivan Banic, who amassed at least a part of his stack in a somewhat bizarre hand where he exposed his cards, flopped a set, but still managed to get paid off by an opponent with a flush draw.

Well-known heroes like Steve O'Dwyer, Chris Moorman, and Dzmitry Urbanovich are also still in with a shot headed to Day 3.

It wasn't all wine and roses for the entire field, however, as 2014 WSOP Main Event champ Martin Jacobson, Friend of PokerStars Felipe "Mojave" Ramos, serial EPT PokerStars qualifer and EPT Berlin champ Kevin MacPhee, EPT Dublin €10,200 Single-Day High Roller winner Charlie Carrel, EPT Dublin €25,750 High Roller champ Mustapha Kanit, and Team PokerStars Pros George Danzer, Theo Jorgensen, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Jake Cody, and Jason Mercier were among those who did not survive the day.

Day 3 will kick off at 12 p.m. local time in Dublin on Wednesday with the money bubble clearly in sight and the PokerNews Live Reporting team will be on hand for all the action from start to finish.

Tune in then as PokerNews will feature exclusive live coverage of the EPT Dublin Main Event through the bubble and beyond.

Raiden Kan opened to 5,000 from under the gun and Jake Cody then moved all in for approximately 34,000 chips in late position. Kan didn't like the call but he tossed in the chips to do so.

Kan: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}
Cody: {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}

The flop {Q-Spades}{7-Clubs}{4-Hearts} saw Kan improve to a set and he held up with {7-Hearts} turn and {8-Hearts} river as final two community cards.

Calamusa Busts Treccarichi

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Pierre Calamusa
Pierre Calamusa

After a raise to 3,600 from under the gun by Walter Treccarichi, Artem Litvinov and Pierre Calamusa called. They headed to the flop {9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop and Calamusa check-called a bet of 5,000 by the Italian, Litvinov also came along as well. They checked the {7-Spades} turn before Calamusa bet the {3-Diamonds} river for 15,000.

Treccarichi now moved all in for 40,000 and Litvinov tanked for a long time before making the fold. Calamusa on the other hand would not let his table neighbor steal the pot without showdown, gave it some thought and called with {A-Spades}{6-Spades}. Treccarichi showed {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades} for ace-high only and hit the rail.

Biggest stack on the table right now is Ivan Deyra.

Mercier Busts

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

In the last hand before the break Jason Mercier had bet 17,600 into a pot of nearly 40,000 against Masters Classic winner Jussi Nevanlinna on a board of {j-Spades}{a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{5-Spades}. Nevanlinna then raised enough to put Mercier all-in, and after much thought Mercier made the call.

Nevanlinna showed {k-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for the nut flush and Mercier sighed, stood to leave the table and threw his hands towards the muck. As he left Nevanlinna asked the dealer to see Mercier's cards, but the dealer had already pulled them partially into the muck. Nevanlinna felt as it was an all-in and call that he was entitled to see Mercier's cards.

The floor was called and after clearing up the action on the river, and with Mercier's cards visible poking out of the muck, the decision was made to retrieve them and turn them over.

There was a slightly tense atmosphere at the table as the dealer turned over {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}, and with a nod Nevanlinna started stacking his chips as players went on a twenty minute break

Mercier Doubles with Higher Straight

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier raised from early position to 2,100 and was three-bet by Kristof Coenen in the small blind to 5,000. Mercier called and the pair saw the {4-Clubs}{5-Spades}{3-Spades} dealt. Coenen put out a continuation bet of 5,000 and Mercier called.

The turn was the {2-Hearts} and after a short period of deliberation Coenen moved all-in and was snap-called by Mercier. The Belgian held {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} and had turned a wheel, but Mercier had raised pre-flop with {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and had turned a higher straight. The river was the {a-Spades} and Mercier eliminated Coenen early on day 2.

The Donkey Is Gone

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Donkey
Donkey

Casey Kastle, with his infamous donkey from Shrek as a card protector, was down to his last 8,100 and moved all in from first position. Action folded to Timothy Adams in the small blind and he moved forward 15,400. The big blind folded.

Timothy Adams: {A-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Casey Kastle: {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}

The flop came {K-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{8-Spades}, and the {3-Hearts} on the turn didn't do Adams any good either.

Adams already counted out the 8,100 was supposed to part ways with soon, but the {10-Hearts} on the river made all that unnecessary.

Exit Castle, Adams back to just over 70,000 after having lost a bit since our last update.

Kanit Busts in Three-Way All In

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Mustapha Kanit
Mustapha Kanit

The betting action escalated on the {9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop with Corey Hochman betting 5,000 and Antoine Saout calling from one seat over. 25k High Roller champion Mustapha Kanit then moved all in and Hochman reshoved to isolate. Saout however called and the three of them tabled their cards.

Kanit: {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Hochman: {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Saout: {8-Spades}{4-Hearts}

Both the {2-Hearts} turn and {7-Hearts} river blanked and Kanit was sent to the rail. Hochman let out a "wow, sick call" to table neighbor Saout and the Frenchman got his stack of 59,800 paid off by Hochman.

Welcome to Day 2 of the EPT12 Dublin Main Event

EPT Dublin Poker Festival
EPT Dublin Poker Festival

A short Day 2 awaits all hopefuls in the 2016 PokerStars EPT12 Dublin Main Event with six 75-minute levels being scheduled. So far, 589 entries were recorded in the two starting days and at least 341 participants will be returning to the tables of the Royal Dublin Society in 90 minutes from now at 12 p.m. noon local time.

Registration remains open until the first card is dealt in level nine at blinds 400-800 with a running ante of 100 and new registrants will receive almost 40 big blinds on their way to glory on Irish soil.

Day 1a chip leader Gilles Bernies kept his top spot after accumulating 189,600 whereas Francisco Oliveira (175,100) jumped into second spot overall last night. Mike McDonald, youngest ever EPT Main Event champ (aged 18 years, 4 months and 22 days when he triumphed at EPT4 Dortmund) , follows in third place with 162,400 and Artem Litvinov's 138,900 are also good enough for the top 10 right now.
