€10,300 No-Limit Hold'em

Day 1 Completed

Tuna Lures Enough Chips for Lead on Short Day 1

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante

An already short Day 1 got even shorter when the €10,300 No-Limit Hold'em event of 2018 PokerStars European Poker Tour Prague started over an hour late, but a decent count of 31 entries had been tallied by day's end.

When the opening day of the festival finished, Akin Tuna bagged the chip lead by turning his 50,000 starting stack into 161,900. It wasn't a particularly auspicious start for Tuna, who busted without making much headway on his first bullet. However, his second crack went far better thanks in large part to a huge pot against Steve O'Dwyer.

It's been a year to remember for O'Dwyer and it looked like his hot run would continue when he and fellow big stack Tuna got all in on the penultimate level of the night, Level 6 (300/600/600). Tuna had flopped bottom set of sixes but was in considerable danger against an overpair and open-ender. True to recent form, O'Dwyer turned a straight, but Tuna filled up on the river to rocket up the counts and collect all of O'Dwyer's chips.

Sam Greenwood (156,000), Charlie Carrel (135,000), Thomas Boivin (132,300) and Jan Schwippert (127,500) were also among those who had strong Day 1s.

Greenwood found a nice double near the end of the night when he check-jammed river against Preben Stokkan — who got second in this event last year — with the backdoor nut flush. Stokkan had turned Broadway and couldn't find a fold despite taking some thinking time.

Carrel made a somewhat surprising appearance after making himself mostly scarce at big live tournaments in recent months and found the waters warm for his return. He busted familiar super high roller foe Jean-Noel Thorel twice to get most of his chips.

In total, 19 players made it through the day and they'll likely be joined by a slew of entries and reentries on Day 2.

Entry will remain open through Level 8 (500/1,000/1,000) as per the initial structure, and Day 2 is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. local time on Saturday. Keep an eye on PokerNews to continue following the first €10K of the final EPT of the year.

Carrel Busts Noel for Second Time

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante

Charlie Carrel took all of Jean-Noel Thorel's chips, and the Frenchman reentered and received the same seat assignment. Again, he clashed with Carrel, this time continuation-betting 2,000 into 8,000 on {5-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{2-Spades}. Carrel made it 8,500 from the big blind and Noel continued to the {a-Hearts}. Carrel bet 12,000 and Noel called quickly. On the {k-Spades} river, Carrel shoved for 25,700 effective and Noel quickly called off.

Carrel turned up {9-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} for nines up and Noel showed {a-}{10-} before taking his leave.

Grafton Finds Call Button to Dub

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante

Four players saw the turn on a board of {a-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and Oleh Okhotskyi bet 11,000 in the cutoff. Sam Grafton called on the button and it was heads up to the {3-Hearts} river. Okhotskyi called and Grafton thought about 10 seconds before slamming in his chips.

Okhotskyi indicated the call was a winner and Grafton rolled over {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}. Okhotskyi had to show his missed flush: {10-Spades}{6-Spades}.

At another table, Timothy Adams busted out.

Sam Greenwood checked from under the gun on a completed board of {10-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{8-Hearts} and Preben Stokkan bet 12,000 into about 21,000 from the button. Greenwood moved all in for 31,500 and Stokkan used three time extensions before calling.

Greenwood showed {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts} for the backdoor nut flush and Stokkan mucked, turning over {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} when informed he had to show.

Okhotskyi Doubles Through Pardo

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

Oleh Okhotskyi check-raised to 6,800 from early position when Juan Pardo bet from the button on {2-Spades}{3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. Pardo called and the two players checked the {3-Spades}, bringing the {2-Diamonds}. Okhotskyi checked and Pardo set him in for about 19,000.

Okhotskyi snap-called and his {k-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for a rivered board bested {a-}{10-}.

Tuna Busts O'Dwyer in Chip-Leading Pot

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

Steve O'Dwyer bet just under pot with 8,000 on an {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{9-Hearts} flop. Oleh Okhotskyi called on the button and Akin Tuna made it 23,800. O'Dwyer jammed, Okhotskyi folded and Tuna called.

Steve O'Dwyer: {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}
Oleh Okhotskyi: {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}

O'Dwyer had 10 outs and found one right away on the {5-Diamonds} turn. However, the {9-Clubs} paired the board to give Okhotskyi a boat. O'Dwyer has about 70,000 and was just covered by 8,000 or so.
