Guilbert Folds A Straight

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante

In a three-bet pot, both David Douglas and Johan Guilbert checked a {9-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop. On the {4-Hearts} turn, Douglas checked, Guilbert bet 1,000, and Douglas called.

The {5-Diamonds} on the river brought a potential wheel on the board and it was Douglas who came out splashing with a quick bet of 4,500. Guilbert took over three minutes to figure it out, staring his opponent down in the process. He apologized to his tablemates, including Daniel Negreanu, for taking the minutes off the clock.

With a heavy heart, Guilbert decided to open-fold {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}, a straight, and Douglas collected without showdown.

On a {8-Spades}{7-Spades}{9-Hearts} flop Pablo Banfi bet 900 and professional golfer Sergio Garcia called. The turn was the {j-Spades} and both players checked.

The river was the {3-Diamonds} and Banfi checked. Garcia bet 1,200 and Banfi tank-called.

Garcia turned over {k-Hearts}{9-Clubs} for a pair of nines, and Banfi showed {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts} for an overpair and took down the pot.

Miles Up and Running

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante

A player opened to 500 and Tony Miles three-bet to 1,600. The big blind cold-called and the initial raiser called as well.

The three players checked the {k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{q-Spades} flop and the turn brought the {a-Hearts}. It checked to Miles who bet 3,000. He got two folds from the other players, and Miles took down the pot.

Gross Overbets, Gets Value

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante
Jeff Gross
Jeff Gross

On the river with the board reading {4-Spades}{6-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs}, Jeff Gross bet 8,200 into a 7,500 pot. Touko Berndtson from Finland mulled it over, then flicked two T-5,000 chips in with a disgusted look on his face.

His gut feeling turned out to be right, as Gross rolled over {8-Spades}{7-Spades} for the rivered nut straight to climb back up over the starting stack.

PokerStars Championship Barcelona Winner Sebastian Sorensson Sits Down

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante

Last year's winner Sebastian Sorensson from Sweden has shown up on Day 1b to try and defend his title. Online qualifier Sorensson won €987,043 by conquering a 1,682-player field in the PokerStars Championship Barcelona Main Event. To this day, this is Sorensson's only live cash recorded on the Hendon Mob, and the Swede hasn't been really spotted in live tournaments ever since.

Last year, the Swede was inseparable from his lucky scarf and he's sporting the same trusty neckwear today as well. We'll keep an eye on Sorensson's progress today as he's trying to achieve a back-to-back here in Casino Barcelona.

In previous years, several November Niners have made the trip to EPT Barcelona in preparation for the most important final table of their life. Spaniard Andoni Larrabe visited Barcelona in 2014, and Vojtech Ruzicka famously finished 24th in the EPT Barcelona Main Event the year he would go on to finish fifth.

This year, and with the November Nine concept almost a distant memory, WSOP Main Event runner-up Tony Miles has been spotted taking his seat in the 2018 Pokerstars Barcelona Main Event.
