Ben Heath Leads 16 Players Advancing to Day 2 of £50,000 Super High Roller

Level 8 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Ben Heath

Another day, another high-roller event at the PokerStars European Poker Tour London festival. Today, the £50,000 Super High Roller kicked off with a total of 30 entries being recorded through the opening eight levels of the tournament. At the end of the day, just 16 players bagged chips who will advance to Day 2, starting tomorrow at 12:30 pm local time.

It was an impressive display of cards from high-stakes regular Ben Heath who makes his home right here in the United Kingdom. Heath was on the right side of some coin flips, coolers, and an all-around clean slate of poker on Day 1. Scoring a couple of knockouts throughout the day, Heath managed to bag up a healthy stack of 918,000 chips, good enough for the Day 1 chip lead.

Heading into Day 2, he will be closely followed by Christoph Vogelsang who cruised throughout the day, winding up with 843,000. Some other big stacks advancing through include Philip Sternheimer (654,000), Steve O'Dwyer (609,000), Juan Pardo (600,000), Adrian Mateos (575,000), and Orpen Kisacikoglu (562,000).

The day began with just 13 players taking their seats and only having to pay half the amount of rake as everyone else. It took a while for the field to grow and the action was stale at times in the opening levels, but some big hands eventually led to chaos.

Timothy Adams was the first to hit the rail when his flopped set, rivered full house, was bested by Joao Vieira who flopped top set and made the nut full house. Adams was among many players who were forced to the registration desk to make use of the unlimited number of re-entries. Joining him throughout the day were Pedro Garagnani, Pardo, Daniel Dvoress, Laszlo Bujtas, Graeme Newman, and Mike Watson all fired a second bullet.

Late registration will continue to remain open until the start of Day 2 where the blinds will resume at 3,000/6,000 with a 6,000 big blind ante. The action will get underway at 12:30 pm local time and the scheduled plan is to play down to the final six players, although that is always up for discussion.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be back to bring you all of the live updates throughout the day as the field will be playing into the money in the highest buy-in event of the series.

Daniel Dvoress
Daniel Dvoress

Orpen Kisacikoglu opened to 9,000 from under the gun and was called by Daniel Dvoress in the cutoff. Philip Sternheimer also came along on the button and Adrian Mateos stuck in a three-bet from the small blind. The action folded back to Dvoress who four-bet ripped all in. Sterneheimer folded but Mateos snapped it off.

Daniel Dvoress: {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}
Adrian Mateos: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

The board ran out {7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and the pair of fives was not enough for Dvoress to overtake Mateos. The stacks were counted and Dvoress was the player at risk for 348,000 with Mateos having him covered by exactly 1,000.

Ben Heath: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}

The board ran out {a-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{j-Spades} and Heath made a set of eights on the flop to send Volkmann to the rail.

Laszlo Bujtas: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}
Ben Heath: {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}

The flop fell {q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} and Heath took command of the pot with a set of jacks. The {q-Diamonds} on the turn improved him to a full house and Bujtas was left drawing dead to the {7-Clubs} on the river.

Adams Throws Some Shade on Grafton

Level 5 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Timothy Adams
Timothy Adams

Timothy Adams opened to 5,500 in early position and was called by Sam Grafton in the big blind. They went heads-up to a flop of {10-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Grafton check-called a continuation bet of 5,000 from Adams.

The turn was the {9-Diamonds} and Grafton checked again. Adams fired another barrel of 17,000 and Grafton took some time before mucking his cards.

"Six-three of hearts?" Adams questioned. "You lost all respectability with me," he continued. Adams proceeded to troll Grafton by telling the table about one time when Grafton was clearly wasting time before folding on a live stream.

"Come on Christoph, you're not gonna back me up here?" Grafton pleaded. "You're the perfect guy to have at the table in this spot."

The two continued some table banter but Grafton could be overheard once more. "Don't come to London and start trash-talking me!"

Action was heads up with 12,000 in the pot and {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} on the board when Sam Greenwood checked from the small blind. Ben Heath checked from the button and the turn was {j-Diamonds}. Both players checked the turn and {4-Clubs} dropped on the river. Greenwood fired 9,000 and Heath considered his options before he tossed it in the muck to give up the pot.

On the next hand, Orpen Kisacikoglu raised 2,000 from late position and Mike Watson three-bet to 18,000 from the small blind. Kisacikoglu got away from it to give Watson another pot. Watson is still on the move and back above the starting stack.

Paul Newey
Paul Newey

Paul Newey raised to 2,500 from the hijack and Adrian Mateos three-bet to 12,000 in the small blind. Newey responded with a four-bet to 35,000 and Mateos just called.

The flop came {q-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{7-Hearts} and both players checked to the {9-Diamonds} on the turn. Mateos checked again and Newey splashed in a bet of 36,500. Mateos called and the {q-Hearts} completed the board.

Both players tapped the table and Mateos flipped over {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}. Newey had that beat with {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} and raked in a healthy pot in the opening level.

"Great river for you," Grafton pointed out to Newey with a chuckle.
