Thorel Scores a Knockout

Level 5 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Aliaksei Boika departed from table four and the next player to get a short stack in on the same table was Ondrej Goetz out of the big blind, looked up by Jean-Noel Thorel in the small blind.

Ondrej Goetz: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}
Jean-Noel Thorel: {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}

The dominated pair found no help on the {10-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{8-Spades} runout and that spelled the end for Goetz.

Boika then re-entered while Paul Newey was moved to table four, joined by Mike Watson as the latest entrant.

Jean-Noel Thorel
Jean-Noel Thorel

With 85,000 in the pot to the {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}{10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} turn, Paul Newey checked out of the small blind. Jean-Noel Thorel instantly pushed all-in and Newey asked for a count. The shove by the French businessman was for 75,000 and Newey took some ten seconds before calling.

Paul Newey: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Jean-Noel Thorel: {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}

The {k-Diamonds} river improved Thorel to a full house and Newey's stack was counted. He had 74,500 at his disposal and was subsequently knocked out, as Newey gasped a "wow" before heading out of the tournament room.

Greenwood Takes the Lead After Ousting Waki

Level 6 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Sam Greenwood

Yasuhiro Waki tapped the table in defeat when he came out second-best in the largest pot of the tournament so far. On a board of {10-Spades}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}, the {a-Spades}{q-Hearts} of Sam Greenwood were good enough for trips queens with the ace kicker and dealer briefly exposed the cards of Waki for what appeared to be {j-}{10-}.

"Nice hand," he said on the way out and Greenwood was then moved tables to balance the shrinking field.

Motoyoshi Okamura and Mike Watson became the next two casualties shortly thereafter.

Juan Pardo

Juan Pardo defended the big blind against a hijack raise by Santhosh Suvarna and both players opted to check the {10-Hearts}{6-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop. On the {4-Hearts} turn, Pardo check-called a bet worth 6,500 and checked the {5-Hearts} on the river.

Suvarna bet 20,000 with 15,000 behind only for Pardo to check-raise to 65,000. Only a few seconds later, Suvarna called and was shown the {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for the ace-high flush by Pardo. He mucked the cards and then exposed the {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs} before heading to the rail.

In the meanwhile, Pavel Binar bowed out from the same table shortly after and Stoyan Obreshkov entered the competition.
