Grieco Scores Another Knockout

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

"Is everything okay here?" the floor inquired after a very vocal Nicola Grieco had once more entertained the entire room. Karim Maekelberg replied with a very dry "he is just happy" while it was the Belgian who had been knocked out by Grieco.

The cards were still exposed with the {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for Maekelberg and the {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} of Grieco. On a board of {q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}, the set of tens was good enough for Grieco to send yet another opponent to the rail.

"How is that possible? You have so many great starting hands ..." Saar Wilf said almost in disbelief and another player on the table remarked "someone has to have them".

Kabrhel Eliminated by Navarro Arrocha

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Martin Kabrhel
Martin Kabrhel

Mario Navarro Arrocha raised to 2,500 in the cutoff and instantly called the shove by Martin Kabrhel in the small blind for slightly more than the starting stack.

Martin Kabrhel: {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Mario Navarro Arrocha: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}

The {q-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{5-Spades} flop gave Kabrhel some equity to score a late double on Day 1a. However, neither the {j-Clubs} turn nor the {5-Hearts} river improved the Czech and he was sent to the rail.

Grossmann Applies Pressure

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Daan Mulders opened to 2,500 in middle position. Directly on his left, Felix Grossmann three-bet to 10,000. Action folded back to Mulders who made the call.

The flop brought {q-Hearts}{7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}. Mulders went with a check, and Grossmann continued for 7,300. Mulders made the call.

On the {9-Clubs} turn, Mulders checked again. Grossman upped the price to 22,000. Mulders thought for a while before releasing his card.

Grossmann slid his cards to Mulders to let him take a peek. Mulders flipped over one card, the {a-Hearts}.

"The other was a king?" he asked Grossmann, who responded with a shrug. "I hate these spots, you know?"

Menger Wins Pot Against Fellow Big Stack Gur

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Onur Gur raised to 2,500 from under the gun and Daniel Menger three-bet to 8,100 in the big blind. Gur was having none of it and four-bet to 18,500 for Menger to come along.

Both players checked the {q-Clubs}{9-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop and the {a-Diamonds} followed on the turn. Menger now bet 12,000 and Gur folded after a few seconds. "Do you want to see one?" Menger offered but Gur just shook his head.

De Almeida Loses Some to Szczytkowski

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

On the tail end of a heads-up pot to the {7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}, Pierre De Almeida faced a bet worth 7,200 and quickly tossed in calling chips. His opponent Wojciech Szczytkowski rolled over the {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for the nuts and De Almeida could all but gasp an "wow, wow, wow".

Brendo Catches Big Blind Bluff

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Action picked up on the river with a board showing {k-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Spades}. About 50,000 sat in the pot.

From the big blind, Shi Yi Ning led for 35,000. He met a snap call from Oddvar Brendo in the hijack.

Ning showed {9-Clubs}{4-Clubs}, but that was no good against the {4-Spades}{3-Spades}, the rivered flush of Brendo that took the pot.

Rajkovic Aggressive From the Big Blind

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Mario Navarro Arrocha opened from middle position, and Eldiyar Janiev called in the cutoff. From the small blind, Adi Rajkovic three-bet. Both other players made the call.

The flop showed up {2-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{8-Spades}. Rajkovic led for 11,500. Arrocha called, but Janiev let it go.

Heads-up to the turn, it came the {9-Diamonds}. After thinking for a bit, Rajkovic led for 35,000, almost half of what Arrocha had behind. Arrocha considered continuing but decided to lay his down after a minute of contemplation.

Higgins Gets Some Chips Back

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Elias Abussamra raised the button and was called by Simon Higgins in the big blind. They headed to a {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{10-Spades} flop on which Higgins called a bet worth 2,200. The same action repeated on the {j-Clubs} turn for 6,000 and the {3-Hearts} river was checked through.

Higgins tabled the {k-Spades}{9-Clubs} for trips kings and that won the pot. "You got it back," Abussamra joked and Higgins replied "yeah ... would you have called any river bet?" Abussamra instantly came back with a "no" as Higgins concluded the conversation with the "thought so".

Both are among the big stacks in the field in the penultimate level of the night.

Defending Champion Glowny Still in the Mix

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

On a heads-up river of {q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{4-Spades}{a-Clubs}, Andriy Mertengren bet 7,500 and only had to get through Grzegorz Glowny. The latter was in the tank for more than two minutes and eventually folded.

Defending champion Glowny is still in the mix albeit now well below the average.
