Aces, Kings, and Queens

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Arnaud Mattern
Arnaud Mattern

Sam Greenwood raised to 12,000 from under the gun and Sirzat Hissou three-bet to 34,000 on his left. Arnaud Mattern four-bet shoved all in for 127,000 in the cutoff and Joao Vieira also pushed all in for 146,000 on the button. The blinds folded as did Greenwood but Hissou called to put both players at risk.

Arnaud Mattern: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}
Joao Vieira: {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
Sirzat Hissou: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

The flop came {7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and Mattern remained in a comfortable lead with his pocket aces. The {10-Diamonds} hit the turn which changed nothing. Vieira pushed one of his kings toward the board as if to magnetize another one from the deck, but it was the {j-Clubs} on the river that allowed all three players to remain in the tournament.

Yantsevich Bows Out After Dinner Break

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Just a couple of hands after the dinner break, Valery Yantsevich got the last of his chips in the middle preflop. He was called by Steve O'Dwyer and the two players were flipping.

Valery Yantsevich: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Steve O'Dwyer: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

The flop came {q-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and O'Dwyer maintained the lead with his pocket tens. The {8-Clubs} on the turn and the {7-Spades} on the river were no help to Yantsevich who was eliminated.

Delgado Bets Drawing Dead

Level 16 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Joao Vieira raised to 10,000 in early position and Vicente Delgado called from the big blind. The flop came {k-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Spades} and Delgado checked to Vieira who bet 7,000. Delgado check-raised to 21,000 and Vieira just called.

The turn brought the {7-Spades} and Delgado fired out another 21,000. Vieira still called and the {a-Spades} on the river put four spades on the board. Delgado checked this time and Vieira checked it back.

Delgado turned over {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for a rivered pair but Vieira held {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for a set of tens that turned into a flush.

Level 16 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Hissou checked and Vogelsang bet 11,000. HIssou called and the turn was {7-Clubs}.

Both players checked the turn and {2-Hearts} came on the river. Hissou checked and Vogelsang checked back.

"Good check," Hissou said as he turned over {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for the straight. Vogelsang mucked the hand and Hissou dragged the pot.

Reard and Staahle Chop One Up

Level 16 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Byron Kaverman raised to 12,000 in middle position and was called by Alexandre Reard on the button and Kent Staahle in the big blind. The flop came {a-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and Kaverman bet 12,000 which was called by both players.

The turn was the {9-Spades} and it checked to Reard this time who bet 35,000. Staahle called and Kaverman got out of the way. The river brought the {10-Clubs} and Staahle announced all in. Reard had just over 60,000 left and called it off.

Staahle flipped over {a-Clubs}{2-Spades} and Reard turned over the same with {a-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} to chop the pot.

"You guys are crazy," Manig Loeser said after the hand.

"That we are," was Staahle's response.

Gianluca Speranza raised to 12,000 in the cutoff and Sirzat Hissou re-raised to 31,000 on the button. The blinds folded and Speranza called to see a flop of {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}.

Both players checked and the {5-Spades} landed on the turn. Speranza checked again and Hissou bet 25,000 this time. Speranza called and the {q-Clubs} hit the river. Both players tapped the table and Speranza showed {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs} to win the pot.
