€100,000 Super High Roller

Day 1 Started

Welcome to Day 1 of €100,000 EPT Super High Roller

EPT Monte Carlo
EPT Monte Carlo

It's been a great start to the 2022 PokerStars European Poker Tour presented by Monte-Carlo Casino and the high-rollers were given a chance to ease their way into the festival over the past couple of days. However, now it is time for the largest buy-in of the festival as the €100,000 Super High Roller is set to take place over the next three days, starting today at 12:30 p.m. local time.

Some of the best high-stakes players in the world have made their way to the French Riviera and are ready to put up a six-figure buy-in in a shot at one of the largest prizepools over the course of the week. In the first couple of high-rollers, it was French businessman Jean-Noel Thorel and Brazilian poker pro Yuri Dzivielevski who took down the titles.

Some other players to keep an eye on that are expected to pony up the €100,000 include Sam Greenwood, Nick Petrangelo, Timothy Adams, PokerStars Ambassador Sam Grafton, along with Ali Imsirovic, Jake Schindler, and Sergi Reixach who will be looking to tell some different storylines than those of the past couple of weeks.

The players will have an extra incentive to be in their seats at the start of play, receiving a 50% refund of the registration fee if they are. Each starting stack will be worth 250,000 chips with the blinds starting at 500/1,000 and a 1,000 big blind ante. The levels will be 60 minutes in length throughout the tournament with a 20-minute break after every two levels. A total of eight levels is on the schedule for Day 1.

Late registration will remain open until the start of Day 2 and players will be given the opportunity of an unlimited number of re-entries within that time frame. Shot clocks will also be in play from the start of the tournament to keep the pace rolling.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be at the Monte Carlo Sporting complex to bring you all of the live updates throughout the tournament en route to crowing a champion.

Lefrancois Makes the Right Call

Level 1 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

The board read {3-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{q-Spades} with around 24,000 in the middle already.

Sam Greenwood bet 7,000 from the big blind for Pascal Lefrancois to consider his options from the cutoff before making the call. In the end, he did for Greenwood to show the {k-Spades}{q-Clubs} for the rivered pair of queens but Lefrancois held the {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for the flopped top pair and the pot.

Dvoress Out-Kicks Eibinger

Level 1 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Daniel Dvoress and Matthias Eibinger were heads-up in a pot with the board reading {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{6-Spades}. Eibinger checked from the small blind and Dvoress bet 15,000 into a pot of just over 15,000 and Eibinger called.

The river was the {4-Hearts} and Eibinger checked again. Dvoress thought for a moment but decided to check it back. Eibinger turned over {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} but Dvoress one-upped him with {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} to claim the pot.

Adams Hits the River Against Schindler

Level 1 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Timothy Adams raised to 7,000 from under the gun and the action folded to Jake Schindler in the small blind who three-bet to 15,000. Adrian Mateos folded his big blind but Adams made the call.

The flop came {9-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{j-Spades}, Schindler check-called the 16,000 continuation-bet of Adams to see the {a-Spades} on the turn.

They both checked through it for the {k-Clubs} to complete the board. They both took some time and then decided to check for the final time. Schindler tabled the {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for Adams to show the {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts} for higher pair he had rivered to scoop the pot.

Flush Over Flush Favors Staahle

Level 1 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Picking up the action on the turn with the board reading {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades}{7-Clubs}, Pascal Lefrancois checked from the big blind. Kent Staahle bet 12,000 in the hijack and Lefrancois check-raised to 40,000. Staahle called and the {a-Spades} landed on the river.

Lefrancois led out with a bet of 30,000 this time and Staahle quickly called. Lefrancois showed {8-Spades}{3-Spades} for a rivered flush but Staahle tabled {j-Spades}{2-Spades} for a higher flush.
