A dealer announced "all in and call" at Mehdi Chaoui's table, with the Moroccan player on the button being at risk for 230,000 chips against Juan Carlos Vecino in the hijack.
Mehdi Chaoui: A♦A♥
Juan Carlos Vecino: A♣Q♠
Chaoui's win was easy, even with a queen on the turn of the 5♦7♠4♥Q♦3♦ runout, as he doubled up to 500,000 chips.
With a flop of J♠9♣6♥, Sammy Lafleur was seen with all of his stack of about 400,000 in the middle against Ka Kwan Lau and both hands were on their backs.
Sammy Lafleur: Q♥Q♦
Ka Kwan Lau: 6♦6♠
Lafleur had an overpair to the board but was in trouble as Lau flopped a set of sixes. The 8♥ turn and K♥ river were no help for Lafleur though as he exited the tournament.
Pedro Lopes opened to 35,000 from the hijack and action folded over to Aristidis Theodoridis, who announced he was all in for his last 205,000 from the small blind. Santiago Plante called cold from the big blind to put Theodoridis at risk and Lopes quickly folded.
Aristidis Theodoridis: A♦7♣
Santiago Plante: A♣K♣
Plante had Theodoridis dominated, and the 7♠8♦K♦9♣3♣ runout kept Plante best with a pair of kings — eliminating Theodoridis from the tournament and extending Plante's chip lead.
Smain Mamouni raised 290,000 and Paul Jurcuta went into the tank on the button. After three time banks, Jurcuta called off his stack of 275,000, and the blinds quickly folded.
Paul Jurcuta: A♦Q♣
Smain Mamouni: 9♥9♠
It was a classic race and the Q♥7♣3♥ flop gave Jurcuta the lead with a pair of queens. The J♥ fell on the turn, giving Mamouni a flush draw but the A♠ improved Jurcuta to two pair as he doubled through Mamouni.
In the most classic of races, PokerStars Team Pro Andre Akkari got all the chips into the middle preflop against fellow Brazilian Felipe Boianovsky.
Andre Akkari: Q♠Q♣
Felipe Boianovsky: A♣K♠
The A♠2♦7♣ flop wiped out Akkari's preflop advantage, and the 4♥ turn didn't offer much hope. However, salvation came in the form of the Q♥ on the river, giving Akkari a crucial double and leaving Boianovsky short.
Catalin Pop opened 40,000 in middle position before getting three-bet to 95,000 by Markku Koplimaa in the cutoff. The action quickly folded back to Pop and he made the call.
The dealer spread a flop of Q♠J♣10♣, and Pop took the lead, pushing a bet of 50,000 across the line. After a few moments, Koplimaa splashed 400,000 across the line and Pop snap-called his stack of 230,000.
Catalin Pop: Q♦J♦
Markku Koplimaa: K♠9♠
Both players connected with the flop as Pop flopped top two pair, and Koplimaa flopped a straight. Pop couldn't pair the board the 6♥ fell on the turn and the A♥ on the river.
Action folded to Adrian State in the small blind, who limped and saw an almost free flop after Felipe Morelli checked his option in the big blind.
Both players checked on the 9♥A♣10♦ board and moved on to the turn 7♦ where Morelli bet 25,000. But State decided to check-raise to 100,000. Morelli eventually called.
On the river 6♦, State took the lead and bet 25,000. But next to him, Morelli was the one who raised this time. He bet 105,000 and put State into the tank.
The Romanian player spread his time banks in front of him, and the dealer took at least five of them from the pile. Clearly struggling, State chose to fold and let the pot go to Morelli.
Mihai Niste opened to 40,000 from middle position and was called by Andre Akkari in the small blind. Agostino Ascone then shoved for 160,000 from the big blind, which got a fold from Niste, but a call from Akkari to put Ascone at risk.
Agostino Ascone: 6♣6♥
Andre Akkari: 4♠4♣
The 2♣J♣J♥ flop left Ascone with a commanding lead in the hand, but the 4♦ turn vaulted Akkari into the lead with a full house, which left Ascone fuming. The 4♥ improved Akkari to unnecessary quads and Ascone was eliminated in brutal fashion.
Shortly after doubling his short stack, Patrik Antonius was at risk again. Wouter Beltz raised to 40,000 from the hijack and called when Antonius moved all in for 270,000 in the big blind.
