PokerStars Ambassador Akkari Denied a Double-Up

Darius Gadeikis opened to 4,000 from the hijack, off of a stack of around 75,000, before PokerStars Ambassador Andre Akkari moved all in for 36,500 from the button. Luke Appleton, in the big blind, thought it over for some time before making the call which pushed out Gadeikis.

The 5♣5♠2♥ flop kept Akkari in front until Appleton hit his three-outer on the J♣ turn to leave Akkari hanging on by a thread. The 9♣ river offered no salvation for Akkari and the Brazilian departed the Main Event.

Demosthenes Kiriopoulos opened to 4,500 from the hijack and called when Philipp Wenzelburger made it 10,500 from the big blind.

Kiriopoulos called bets of 6,500 and 34,500 on the flop and turn for the final board to read 10♥9♣8♥J♠Q♥.

With the river putting a queen-high straight on the board, Wenzelburger slowed down his aggression and checked. Kiriopoulos thought for a few moments before firing out 110,000. Wenzelburger wasted little time in folding.

Haraldstan then raised to 51,000 in the big blind and Zapsa tanked for a minute before moving all in. Haraldstad snap-called for 78,000.

Action folded around to Imanol Cabello, who raised to 4,000 from the small blind. Fabrice Bigot three-bet to 16,000 from the big blind and Cabello called the raise.

The flop came 4♠3♠3♥. Cabello checked and Bigot bet 15,000. Cabello check-raised to 45,000 and Bigot called.

The turn was the 6♥. Cabello fired out a bet of around 35,000 and Bigot moved all in, putting pressure on his opponent for the rest of their chips. Cabello weighed it up and then mucked his hand, giving Bigot the pot.

Gus Hansen busted just before the break, and a player provided PokerNews with a recap of the hand:

Everybody folded to Hansen in the small blind, who raised to 4,000. Niclas Thumm called from the big blind.

Both players checked through the 7xQxJx flop.

The 3♠ turn prompted Hansen to bet 4,000 and Thumm raised to 18,000. Hansen went all in and Thumm called.

With top pair, better kicker, Hansen was ahead until the turn. With two pair, queens and treys, Thumm had taken the lead, and the 9♣ on the river didn't change anything. Thumm, a finalist at the 2023 PSPC Bahamas, eliminated Hansen from the tournament.

Yaghmai could only shrug as he left the table while Rodriguez Cabanillas dragged in the pot.
