Zaffran's Connectors Hit the Flop

Level 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Jean Paul Zaffran raised to 2,000 and then called the short-stack shove for 9,200 by Loris Andre in the small blind.

Loris Andre: KK
Jean Paul Zaffran: 87

The suited connectors instantly hit the J109 flop, leaving Andre in need of a queen or running cards. More hope came with the 10 turn but the A river was a blank.

Hooper Wins Flip

Level 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Albert Aurelien opened 2,500 in middle position and the action folded to Donald Hooper in the big blind who announced all-in. Aurelien wasted no time calling off his stack of about 38,000, and both hands were turned on their backs.

Albert Aurelien: 99
Donald Hooper: AK

It was a classic race as the 762 flop hit the felt. Aurelien was still in the lead with his pair of nines, but the A turn left him drawing thin. The 10 river changed nothing, sending Aurelien out.

Ponomarev Busts to Azrak

Level 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Nikolay Ponomarev raised to 2,000 from late position and was called by Omar Azrak in the small blind. Giovanni Torre then raised to 8,000 from the big blind. Both Ponomarev and Azrak called.

The flop came J42. Azrak checked, Torre bet 8,000, then Ponomarev moved all in for around 15,000. Azrak folded and Torre made the call. He showed J9 for a pair of jacks, but Azrak flipped QQ for pocket queens, an overpair to the board.

The turn came the 10 and river the 3. Azrak held to near-double his stack and Ponomarev was eliminated from the tournament.

Docherty Loses Three-Bet Pot to Cochin

Level 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Following one limp, David Docherty made it 3,500 to go in the hijack. Aristide Cochin three-bet to 11,500 on the button and the blinds as well as limper folded, Docherty called and then asked his opponent to move over the large chips.

They headed to the Q97 flop on which Docherty checked. Cochin bet 14,000 and the snap-fold of Docherty followed.

"I knew you had a decent stack, but not you had that many blue," Docherty remarked. With the felt and light in blue, the largest chip denomination in play can be tricky to see.

Chokron Cracks Aces as Asik Exits the Tournament

Level 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

After a series of raises, Antoine Asik was at risk for 55,700 against Mickael Chokron, while Dylan Gessel mucked his 10x10x face-up.

Antoine Asik: AA
Mickael Chokron: QQ

Asik had Chokron dominated in a preflop cooler, and the J99 flop looked promising. The 10 hit the turn, giving Chokron some extra outs with a straight draw, and the 8 river completed his straight as Asik walked away from the table.

Afonso Flips with Levy

Level 7 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante

Patrick Afonso raised from middle position, the hijack three-bet to 5,600 and Jordan Levy cold called on the button, with approximately 18,000 behind.

Afonso thought for some time before moving all in for approximately 40,000, the hijack made a frustrated fold and Levy made a frustrated call.

Jordan Levy: JJ
Patrick Afonso: AK

The board ran out 856A4; Afonso hit one of his overcards on the turn to ultimately send Levy to the rail.

Shimizu Leaves Sacksick on Fumes

Level 7 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante

Nozomu Shimizu raised to 1,600 from under the gun and picked up three callers. David Sacksick was among them and bet 3,000 out of the small blind on the 1032 flop. Shimizu called, as did Ali Bayrak in the cutoff. On the J turn, Sacksick bet another 6,000 and this time it was only Shimizu who called.

On the 2 river, Sacksick bet 9,000 and Shimizu raised to 33,000. After a brief tank, Sacksick called for almost his entire stack. Shimizu rolled over the JJ for jacks full of deuces and Sacksick was depleted, flashing his cards briefly before tossing them to the muck.
