Bernardo Neves moved all in for 6,000,000 from the hijack and Mengshi Tian called in the cutoff.
Bernardo Neves: A♥Q♣
Mengshi Tian: J♦J♣
Neves was racing for his tournament life, but he couldn't connect with the K♥9♥3♣2♠6♠ board and the WSOP bracelet winner became the first casualty of the final table.
Last year in Barcelona, the European Poker Tour (EPT) celebrated its 20th anniversary in style. Despite the black clouds and torrential downpour outside Casino Barcelona, which contrasted with the sunny scenes of previous PokerStars European Poker Tour Barcelona Main Events, Stephen Song provided the warmth needed in the room as he proudly hoisted the 20th Anniversary Golden Shard trophy.
On the final day of the Main Event, Song found himself all-in and at risk on five separate occasions. Lady luck smiled down upon him each time as he scratched and clawed his way to the win. But what was the secret to running so pure?
"You just keep showing up and eventually you're just going to win, right? Just mathematically, it has to happen," Song told PokerNews. "I will say that my mom said she was praying for me very hard during this tournament. I've been sun-running the whole seven days, so I'm definitely thankful for that."
Action folded to Daniele Cuomo who raised to 1,050,000 in the small blind. Bernardo Neves then three-bet to 2,800,000 in the big blind, and Cuomo called.
The flop came K♣7♣9♠ and Neves continued for 2,000,000. Cuomo then slid forward a tower of white 500,000 chips to put Neves all in, and Neves quickly folded. Cuomo showed Q♠J♠ as he took the pot.
"How do you know?" Ben Zech asked.
"I know him," Cuomo replied.
The next hand, Kazuhiko Yotsushika raised to 1,000,000 in the hijack and picked up calls from Cuomo on the button and Mengshi Tian in the big blind.
Yotsushika bet 1,500,000 on the J♥6♣5♣ flop and only Tian called. Both players checked the 6♠ turn, and Tian led out for 2,800,000 on the 9♠ river. Yotsushika called and Tian showed K♥J♥ to win the last pot before break.
Jakub Sterba raised to 1,100,000 in early position and Kazuhiko Yotsushika three-bet to 4,000,000 in the hijack. Sterba called and they saw a flop of A♥K♣6♥.
Yotsushika bet 2,000,000 and Sterba called. The turn was the 2♠ and Yotsushika bet another 3,000,000. Sterba then moved all in for 6,000,000 and Yotsushika snap-folded.
