Day 4 Action
The day began with 103 players and, given that they were well within the money, it didn't take long for the eliminations to build up. Some of them were innocuous, like Chau Shing Lam getting it in with a dominated ace-seven against the Big Slick Stefan Jedlicka and a clean runout confirming his elimination. Others were downright brutal.
One such elimination was that of American high-stakes pro Adam Hendrix, who check-called two streets with two pair to be all in against the double gutter of Cesar Garcia with one card to come. Julius Caesar may have been stabbed in ancient times, but it was Cesar Garcia who dug the knife into his enemy as he hit his straight on the river to deliver a crushing beat to the Alaska all-time money leader.
Not brutal enough? How about Ronnie Lemmens cracking the aces of Carlos Garcia with ace-king by flopping a king and turning another one? Or Michael Uguccioni getting it in with ace-queen against the tens of Heitor Maciel and seeing an ace in the window right before a ten hit on the flop?
A few highlights of the day include Javier Tazon making a hero call against Karl Karlsson before his impeccably named opponent got revenge, a suck and re-suck that ousted Stefan Jedlicka and added to the stack of the earlier mentioned Garcia, Lauri Saaskilahti hitting runner-runner trips holding an unsuited nine-four.
Those who failed to advance through Day 4 include Jason Wheeler, who PokerNews featured and interviewed here, Dr. Seuss inspiration Sam Lam, here, and two-time EPT final tablist Peter Jorgne.
Day 5 will kick off at noon local time inside Casino Barcelona on Level 25 with blinds of 20,000/40,000/40,000. Each returning player is guaranteed at least €34,800, while €1,436,000 awaits the eventual champion.
PokerNews will be back on-site tomorrow following every step of the EPT Barcelona Main Event, so stay tuned.
