Senhaji Shows His Cards and Gets a Penalty

Level 23 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Mehdi Senhaji
Mehdi Senhaji

Pasi Laihinen raised to 50,000 under the gun and Mehdi Senhaji called in the hijack.

The flop came 832 and Laihinen bet 75,000. Senhaji then raised to 150,000, and Laihinen called.

Both players checked the 10 turn. Laihinen then led out for 275,000 on the 4 river, and here is where controversy erupted.

Senhaji turned over his 88 as he tried to get a reaction from Laihinen. "I'm just thinking. I'm not raising," Senhaji said.

"What's going on?" Laihinen asked as a tournament official was called over to the table. The hand was allowed to proceed, and Senhaji ended up burning through multiple time banks and taking a few minutes before folding his set.

Senhaji was then given a chip penalty for exposing his hand, one orbit worth of blinds and antes being taken from his stack.

Bora Kurtulus
Bora Kurtulus

Ivan Uzunov made it 50,000 under the gun. Thomas Bazin called in middle position, and Bora Kurtulus defended his big blind.

It checked to Bazin on the 586 flop. He bet 80,000, which Kurtulus just called. Uzunov had other plans and raised to 290,000, folding Bazin's J9 out of the pot.

Kurtulus was not going anywhere, quickly calling to the Q turn. Kurtulus checked, Uzunov fired a bet of 210,000, and Kurtulus instantly moved all in for 600,000. Uzunov double-checked his cards before snap-calling with the covering stack.

Bora Kurtulus: 97 All in
Ivan Uzunov: QQ

Kurtulus' flopped straight remained the best hand on the K river, earning him a big double-up and leaving Uzunov with roughly 20 big blinds in his stack.

Dimitrios Gkatzas made it 50,000 to go under the gun. Paawan Bansal flat-called in the small blind, and Ding Fan defended his big blind.

All three players tapped the table on the 3710 flop, leading to the K turn. It was once again checked to Gkatzas, who bet 75,000. Bansal called before Fan raised to 250,000.

Gkatzas had been taking a stab at the pot with A8 and quickly got out of the way, but Bansal wanted to see a river and called. The Q river was subsequently quickly checked to showdown.

Bansal tabled AJ for the rivered nuts, leaving the 73 of Fan in the dust and overtaking him in the counts.

Gkatzas Folds King-High Flush, Gets Shown Inferior Hand

Dimitrios Gkatzas
Dimitrios Gkatzas

Ding Fan raised his JJ to 50,000 on the button. Dimitrios Gkatzas flat-called KQ in the small blind, and Jeffrey Sarwer came along for the ride with K7 in the big blind.

The trio checked through the Q38 flop, prompting Sarwer to take the initiative with a bet of 75,000 on the J turn. Fan and Gkatzas both called to the 2 river, where the action checked to Fan again.

Fan wagered 200,000 with his top set, sending Gkatzas into the tank. Gkatzas spent a time bank before he concluded the third nuts was no good, and he sent his king-high flush into the muck.

Sarwer's air was quickly passed to the dealer as well. Fan smiled as he tabled his hand for the other players to see, causing an agonized look to form on Gkatzas' face.
