€10,300 High Roller

Day 1 Started

Will We See a Record-Breaking High Roller?

The high-stakes action from Barcelona isn't over just yet. The €5,300 Main Event may be moving on to Day 4 with 103 players left from a record-breaking field, but today marks the start of the always impressive €10,300 High Roller.

After the €50,000 Super High Roller and €5,300 Main Event both smashed records, there are high hopes for this event. Last year's installment attracted a total of 180 entries — 138 unique players with 42 reentries. The event was won by Thomas Muehloecker, who walked away with a big, bad €390,700 first-place prize. One shouldn't doubt that this event could easily surpass 200 entries this year.

Muehloecker's win was especially remarkable after he came back from a 6-1 chip deficit at the start of heads-up play against none other than Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu. Where many people would've simply gambled a lot and essentially give up, Muehloecker stayed on the grind and slowly worked his way back into the match before eventually claiming victory. To relive Muehlloecker's win, you can read through last year's live reporting coverage of the event.

Day 1 will begin at 1 p.m. local time, with each player allowed one reentry. Registration will remain open until 15 minutes before the start of play on Day 2, and players will each start with 50,000 in tournament chips.

The coverage starts soon, so stay tuned.

While you wait, check out this little fun video with last year's runner-up. In it, Negreanu addresses the challenge issued to him by Doug Polk about playing $25/$50 online cash:

Prokhorskiy Folds River To Larrabe

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

From the button, Nikolay Prokhorskiy opened to 525. In the big blind was 2014 World Series of Poker November Niner Andoni Larrabe, and he reraised to 1,400. Prokhorskiy called, and the flop came down {10-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Clubs}.

On the flop, Larrabe checked, and Prokhorskiy bet 1,700. Larrabe check-raised to 4,800, and his opponent called to see the {4-Diamonds} land on the turn. Larrabe bet 7,700, and Prokhorskiy called.

The river paired the board with the {4-Clubs} and brought in a flush draw. Larrabe took his time, then moved all in for around 36,000. Prokhorskiy tanked for a minute or so, then folded, and Larrabe won the pot.

The Defending Champion Is Here

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

Thomas Muehloecker has just entered the tournament, going for back-to-back titles after taking this event down here last year. Last year's runner-up Daniel Negreanu has not been spotted yet.

Also in the field is Olivier Busquet, who took down the €50,000 Super High Roller earlier this festival. No sight of the runner-up from that event, Daniel Colman, either.

Baumann Shown Aces

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante
Gaëlle Baumann
Gaëlle Baumann

Lukas Berglund opened from early position for 600, and Gaelle Baumann (middle position), and Jonathan Little (hijack) made the call. The player in the cutoff squeezed to 2,800 and just Baumann made the call.

Baumann check called another 2,925 on {10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{A-Diamonds}, and the {K-Hearts} popped up on the turn. Baumann checked again, and her opponent bet out 7,550.

Baumann thought for a little bit, and then folded. Her opponent showed his {A-Spades}{A-Hearts} and gathered the chips.

Smashing Records

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

Last year's €10,300 High Roller from the European Poker Tour Barcelona attracted 138 unique entries with 42 reentries for a total of 180. That set the record for the largest €10,300 High Roller on the EPT at the time, and that record was later broken in Vienna with 141 unique entries with 40 reentries.

The tournament today is through just one level of play, but it looks as though a brand new record will be set. There's always 169 unique entries in the field this year, and that's all but secured a new record being set.
