News in Brief

Level 3 : 150/300, 25 ante
  • Team PokerStars Pro Jonathan Duhamel, EPT Deauville finalist Benjamin Pollak and Dani Stern have recently taken their seats to bump the total number of entrants up to 53.
  • The bigger they are the harder they fall. Francisco Castro's stack touched 90,000 early-on but he's become the first casualty. No details except he had a wry smile on his face as he left the room.
  • Philipp Gruissem managed to get Patrick Leonard off a hand on the river with a 7,500 bet. Around 25,000 was already committed and the board read {7-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. Leonard tank-folded.

Beating Up On Holz

Level 3 : 150/300, 25 ante

Fedor Holz is trying to makes things happen but had to give up on a couple of hands.

He raised to 900 from the cutoff and Team PokerStars Pro Isaac Haxton defenced his big blind to see a {3-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop. Holz continued for 900 but folded when Haxton check-raised to 2,700.

A couple of hands later he raised to 800 and Mike Watson peeled from the big blind and called a 800 c-bet on a {2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{10-Spades} flop. No more chips ventured forward as the {3-Clubs}{6-Clubs} turn and river were checked through.

Watson opened {a-Spades}{9-Clubs} and Holz mucked.

First Break of the Day

Level 2 : 100/200, 25 ante

The day is 20% done and the players are taking a 15-minute break. A few new names joined the field, including Martin Jacobson, the current World Champion. Wouldn't you know it, he's been drawn next to Jorryt van Hoof, the man he who finished third at that final table. The pair shared a friendly embrace.

Dvoress Doubles Through Castro

Level 2 : 100/200, 25 ante
Daniel Dvoress

"All in and a call," a dealer shouted from the far end of the room.

We made our way over to discover that a raising war had broke out on the turn with the board reading {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. There was around 5,000 in the pot, but action exploded between Daniel Dvoress and Francisco Castro that resulted in the former getting his stack of 39,025 in the middle.

The exact details escaped us, but it appeared Castro bluffed at the pot after some action had occurred and Dvoress called off. Whatever the case, Castro went to muck after Dvoress tabled the {6-Clubs}{4-Hearts} for a straight. Since it was an all-in situation, Castro was obliged to show, so the dealer revealed his {k-Hearts}{j-Clubs}.

Castro was drawing dead and sent over about half his stack after the {2-Hearts} was run out on the river.

Chidwick Sets Up Van Hoof

Level 2 : 100/200, 25 ante

Martin Finger opened for 550 from the cutoff and Jorryt van Hoof called from the small blind. Stephen Chidwick came along from the big and the triumvirate saw the flop come out {q-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{5-Clubs}, which they all checked.

After the dealer burned and turned the {7-Diamonds}, van Hoof led out for 850, Chidwick raised to 2,800, and Finger folded. The man from the Netherlands made the call and then both players returned to checking on the {6-Diamonds} river. Chidwick tabled the {5-Hearts}{5-Spades} for a set, which bested the {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts} of Van Hoof.

Castro Gives To Rasulov

Level 2 : 100/200, 25 ante
Agshin Rasulov

Olivier Busquet raised to 500 from the cutoff only to have Francisco Castro three-bet to 1,850 from the button. Agshin Rasulov then four-bet to 4,100 from the big blind, Busquet folded, and Castro called to see a {2-Spades}{k-Hearts}{q-Hearts} flop.

Rasulov checked, Castro bet 2,500, and Rasulov check-raised to 7,500. Castro thought long and hard before three-bettting to 19,500, and that did the trick as Castro, who had amassed a big stack, released his hand.

Nice Flop for Haxton

Level 2 : 100/200, 25 ante

Isaac Haxton flopped very well but played it cautiously after his c-bet was call by both opponents.

He raised from early position pre flop and bet 1,400 on a {2-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} flop. Paul Newey (button) and Pratyush Buddiga (big blind) called both times before all three checked down the {a-Spades}{3-Hearts} turn and river.

Buddiga opened {j-Spades}{10-Hearts} but Haxton scooped with {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}. Newey mucked.
