The Kicker Counts

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Ivan Luca defended his big blind against a raise by Friedrich Brunsch and the duo checked through the {5-Spades}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades}{3-Diamonds} turn. On the {9-Hearts} river, Luca bet 5,600 into a pot of what appeared to be around 2,000 and Brunsch gave it some thought before making the call.

Luca was ready to muck and motioned to his opponent to show first, which Brunsch obliged to by flashing {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}. The Argentinian showed the {A-Diamonds} and indeed mucked with the second card apparently being an eight. "I knew it!" Brunsch triumphed and raked in the pot.

Another notable in today's field is Pavel Binar, the Czech is above starting stack.

Beghrakis and Rapp Stacked

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Evangelos Beghrakis and Stefan Rapp have increased their stacks to more than double. Rapp's latest hand saw him spike trips queens with the {Q-Spades}{10-Spades} and his opponent held {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts} for an equally strong hand. However, Rapp made a full house on the river and the same card gave his opponent a flush to create juicy action.

Peters Busts with Set

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Tobias Peters
Tobias Peters

After a rather innocent action to the {8-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop, the fireworks started with Friedrich Raz and Tobias Peters going at it. The former eventually ended up all in after a raising war for 29,375 and showed the {A-Spades}{7-Spades} for the nut flush draw. Peters held deuces for bottom set and saw his stack all but melt with the {J-Hearts} turn and {3-Spades} river.

One hand later, Thorsten Ostwald limped from under the gun and Peters shoved his last 3,000 chips. Ostwald called and it was a flip for the Dutchman:

Peters: {A-Spades}{J-Diamonds}
Ostwald: {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}

The board ran out {8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{2-Clubs} provided no help for Peters and he headed to the rail, but will most likely reenter on Day 1c.

Tuncay No More

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

It was somewhat of a surprise to see the media card of Tutus Tuncay waiting on the desk and a quick check at his previous table indeed confirmed that the German had been eliminated. It was a clash of the two biggest pocket pairs in No Limit Hold'em and Tuncay five-bet jammed for what appeared to be 45,000 according to Ali Sameeian.

Boris Andreev had even more chips and snap-called with pocket kings to face pocket aces. A king on the flop provided the suckout in favor of the Russian and Tuncay failed to improve.

Rettenbacher Busts to Wyraz

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Alexander Rettenbacher called a bet of Grzegorz Wyraz on the {K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop and then faced a bet worth 3,025 by the Pole on the {10-Clubs} turn. Rettenbacher first tossed in a T-5,000 chip followed by a T-25 and it was ruled to be a forced min-raise instead of a flat-call. Wyraz then shoved and the Austrian was too committed to fold his {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}, eventually putting the remaining chips in.

Wyraz showed the {K-Spades}{J-Spades} for two pair and the {7-Hearts} river blanked.

Pospiech and Raschke Thriving

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Tillmann Raschke appears to be the current chip leader with almost three times the starting stack while Zofia Mudrochova has been eliminated.

Another German is up in chips. Marius Pospiech and his opponent in the cutoff generated a pot of 10,000 until the {9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and Pospiech bet 7,000. The player in the cutoff tanked for some time and then called it off only to get shown {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs} by Pospiech as winning hand.

"What did you have, tens?" Pospiech asked and his opponent nodded, later claiming to have played against him previously in the Spielbank Hohensyburg.

Two Unusual Faces in Rozvadov

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Alex Kravchenko and Ivan Luca are among the latest entries and the overall field size for Day 1a has since increased to 211 entries with 19 seat open. Kravchenko is apparently here for the big cash games while Luca played the WPTN Brussels last week and then cashed in the €5,300 Super High Roller yesterday.

Staengle Drops Some

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

The full betting action was amiss, but Jesper Hansen was all in and at risk for his last 7,800 from the button. Initial raiser Alexander Staengle looked him up from the hijack with the {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and had the far worse kicker compared to the Dane's {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}. On the {Q-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{3-Spades} turn, Staengle was hoping for a split pot with a queen or seven.

The request of the German however went on deaf ears, as the dealer burned and turned the {K-Diamonds} river instead.

Mudrochova Pays Off Firsov

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Sergei Firsov was all in and at risk for what looked like 15,000 on the river of a board {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{6-Spades}{K-Clubs} and the agony in the face of Zofia Mudrochova was easily visible. The shove was for most of her stack and eventually the Slovakian made the call only to get shown {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts} as winning hand for Firsov.

With less than 20 big blinds, the next few levels will decide over the fate of Mudrochova.
