Stacks on the Rise

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

Kenny Smith is holding the chip lead as play winds down in level 11. He still has some work to do if he wants to catch Day 1a chipleader Jeremy Detamore, but he still has three levels to do so.

Another player making his way up the leaderboard is Chris Meyers. Meyers just got eliminated a player when they got all in on a three-club flop {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{3-Clubs}. Meyers had aces, {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} against the {q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} of his opponent.

The turn completed the flush and the river was a blank, giving Meyers the win with the nut flush.

Meet Iverson Cotton Snuffer

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 100 ante
Iverson Cotton Snuffer
Iverson Cotton Snuffer

Iverson Cotton Snuffer might be the most colorful player in the field here on Day 1b. He says that he once won a poker tournament 40 years ago and that he failed third grade math so many times that they kicked him out for not shaving.

The truth is, he finished third in this event last year and has $401,637 in career earnings. He has three cashes so far this year for almost $45,000 in earnings. He's sitting at just under 50,000 chips with three-and-a-half levels to go tonight.

Smith Doubles

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Marc Smith just doubled up with pocket jacks.

The action started with Smith in the big blind. A player in early position raised to 2,000 and the remaining players folded until the small blind. He reached for chips and threw out a call. Smith didn't waste much time going all in for his remaining 6,775 and the original raiser reraised to 20,000.

The player in the small blind folded and Smith was heads up with the early position raiser. He had {j-}{j-} and his opponent had {2-}{2-}. Smith flopped a set of jacks right off the back to take away any unnecessary drama.

Miller Flops a Straight, But Schwalich Flops A Flush

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Norm Davis opened for 3,200 and Nicole Miller called on a board reading {5-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{6-Spades}.

Scott Schwalich was next to act and raised to 14,000. Davis tanked for a while, but elected to fold.

Miller was torn. She told Schwalich she flopped a straight and didn't seem to get much of a read off him. After a few moments she put the rest of her chips in, which was a raise to Schwalich.

It was barely more than he had originally bet, but he didn't call the bet before he exposed his hand. As a result, he won the hand and eliminated Miller, but he also got a one round penalty for exposing his hand with action pending.
