Yazici Eliminates Stum; First Over 100K

Level 10 : 400/800, 75 ante

With 25,000 in the pot and a board reading {2-Spades}{8-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Spades}, Allan Stum bet 15,000 from the big blind, leaving himself 13,000 or so behind. Kenneth "Hockey" Hock wasted little time in folding from middle position, and Bradley Yazici took his time before announcing that he was all in from the button.

"Here we go, son," Stum bellowed. "I call."

"I have a flush," Yazici stated.

"I do too," Stum declared. Yazici tabled the {k-Spades}{q-Spades}. "What are you gonna do?" Stum asked rhetorically before showing the inferior {j-Spades}{10-Spades}.

Stum sought solace from his friend on the rail while Yazici stacked the monster pot to become the first player to surpass the 100K mark.

More for Kostelac

Level 10 : 400/800, 75 ante

Bradley Yazici opened for 1,800 under the gun and received a call from Kenneth "Hockey" Hock on the button. John Kostelac called from the big blind, and then all three player took a flop of {4-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{q-Spades}, which they checked.

Kostelac checked for a second time on the {6-Spades} turn, Yazici bet 3,100, and both his opponents called. When the {10-Diamonds} completed the board on the river, Kostelac checked, Yazici bet 3,500, and Hock folded. Kostelac wasted little time in making the call, and that prompted Yazici to admit, "Ace high."

Kostelac then rolled over the {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts} for a flopped set and the win.

Moneymaker's Tournament Life Comes to an End

Level 9 : 300/600, 50 ante
Chris Moneymaker
Chris Moneymaker

HPO ambassador Chris Moneymaker gave a valiant effort here in Grantville, but two big hands just sent him out the door. First, Moneymaker was crippled after running into the quads of Vicki Russel. Not long after, he'd play his final hand.

It began when Mike Summers opened for 1,300 and Larry Kostelac flatted from the cutoff. After the button folded, Moneymaker moved all in for roughly 10,000, Summers moved all in over the top, and Kostelac folded.

Moneymaker got it in good with {9-}{9-}, but he was racing against the {a-}{k-} of Summers. The flop put a dagger through Moneymaker's heart by delivering Summers an ace, and that was followed by blanks on both the turn and river.

"Good luck guys," the ambassador said before taking his leave from the tournament right at the tail end of Level 9.

Stum Shoves on Hockey

Level 9 : 300/600, 50 ante

With 13,000 or so in the pot and a board reading {8-Spades}{9-Spades}{6-Clubs}{q-Spades}, Kenneth "Hockey" Hock checked from the big blind and Allan Stum moved all in from the button for right around 18,000. Hock didn't seem thrilled by the move and spun his cards to the muck.

"Never, Ever Get My Money in Bad"

Level 9 : 300/600, 50 ante

We missed the preflop action, but we do know that Mike Vogelsong got his short stack all in on a flop of {k-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Spades} and was at risk against Lee Childs. Vogelsong was ahead with the {j-Spades}{10-Spades} for a flopped flush, but Childs held the {a-Spades}{x-} meaning another spade would give him a bigger flush.

Much to Vogelsong's dismay, the dealer burned and turned the {Q-Spades}. Childs made his flush, but Vogelsong wasn't drawing dead. He could still catch the {9-Spades} to make a straight flush. Unfortunately for him, it didn't happen as the river blanked.

"Never, ever get my money in bad," Vogelsong said to no one in particular. "Never happens."

Lucky River for Childs

Level 9 : 300/600, 50 ante

Fritz Neunkirchner has been getting the better of Lee Childs most of the evening, but that just changed in a hand thanks to a lucky river.

The hand began when Bradley Yazici opened for 1,400 and Childs called from the cutoff. Neunkirchner came along from the button, both blinds did too, and five players saw a flop of {9-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}, which they all checked.

Three checks on the {A-Hearts} turn saw Childs bet 3,000, Neunkirchner call, and the rest of the field fold. Childs then checked the {2-Hearts} river and Neunkirchner did the same. Childs tabled the {a-Spades}{2-Spades} for a rivered two pair, and he needed the deuce as Neunkirchner had been ahead with the {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}.
