Grisham Hits Set on Turn and Doubles

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Matt Grisham
Matt Grisham

Matt Grisham's was standing up pumping his fist, having just doubled with his winning hand of {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds} still tabled.

He was happy to recount the hand, saying he had opened to 3,000 from middle position and was three-bet by Ben Jensen on the button to 6,500. The small blind cold-called and Grisham came along with the three players seeing a flop of {9-Clubs}{a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}.

Action checked through and the turn came {7-Hearts}. The small blind led out for 4,000 and Jensen raised to 15,000. Grisham, having just turned a set, raised to 35,000. The small blind folded and Jensen came over the top to put Grisham all in. He was more than happy to call.

Jensen had {a-}{k-} and was unable to fill up to a higher full house when the river {10-Clubs} fell. With the pot, Grisham now finds himself as one of the names near the top of the leaderboard.

Blazer Takes From Ajayi

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

There was around 9,000 in the middle in a heads-up pot between Dapo Ajayi in the big blind and Larry Blazer on the button. The flop came {3-Spades}{10-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} and Ajayi checked. Blazer bet 1,600 and Ajayi called.

The turn fell {a-Spades} and Ajayi called a bet of 2,000 from Blazer. The river was {2-Spades} and Ajayi checked. Blazer fired 4,000 forward and Ajayi check-raised to 11,000.

Blazer called and tabled {j-Hearts}{q-Spades} for Broadway and Ajayi, whose hand was shown for a split second, was turned face down and mucked as the pot was sent Blazer's way.

A Few Chip Counts at Dinner

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Players are on a one-hour dinner break with play set to resume at approximately 7:30 p.m. local time. Late registration is open until the end of the break.

In the meantime, here are a few chip counts with Keith McCarthy and Greg Collins likely leading the way. McCarthy has had a few hands of note already mentioned, whereas Collins has been able to accumulate steadily. He did, however, have one big pot where he flopped trip eights with queen-eight versus ten-eight which added a chunk of around 70,000 to his stack along the way.

Sloan Wins Big Flip Before Dinner

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Keith McCarthy and Shane Sloan had both committed 7,200 from the small blind and middle position, respectively, before Matt Livingston shoved all in for 42,600 from the cutoff. McCarthy folded and Sloan called.

Shane Sloan: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Matt Livingston: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

The two found themselves in a coin flip situation and Sloan ended up on top after the board ran out {7-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{6-Spades}. McCarthy was then eliminated and immediately rebought, finding a seat at a new table.

LePeau Doubles Through Clinkscales

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

On the hand following Clinkscales' jack-high bet from the big blind, Steve LePeau shoved all in from early position and action folded back to Clinkscales.

Clinkscales asked if the amount was 20,300 and it was confirmed. He then called.

Steve LePeau: {3-Spades}{3-Clubs}
Rex Clinkscales: {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

The board ran out {k-Spades}{2-Spades}{k-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and LePeau held to secure the double at the expense of Clinkscales.

Verbeck and Clinkscales Go At It

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Action folded to Joel Verbeck on the button who raised to 6,000. While small blind Lynn Hopkins was in the process of folding, the subject of Verbeck's raise size was brought up by Clinkscales.

"I'll show," said Verbeck in response.

"You'll one-hundred percent show," said Clinkscales, laughing as he called.

The flop came {3-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Clubs} and both players checked. Clinkscales bet 7,500 on the turn {5-Clubs} and Verbeck called.

"You're calling me with ace-high?" Clinkscales said as Verbeck called. Verbeck said he wasn't calling with ace-high.

The river fell {2-Spades} and Clinkscales stated that Verbeck had just filled up after calling with ace high. Nonetheless, he bet 13,800. Verbeck called.

"Jack-high," said Clinkscales. Verbeck showed {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} for a rivered wheel and took down the pot.

"I knew you were calling me with ace-high," Clinkscales said.
