Blake Whittington in Day 1b action

Facing a {3-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} board, a player bet 1,100 from middle position, and Blake Whittington made the call in the hijack.

Whittington called a 2,600 chip shell from his opponent on the {5-Spades} turn, and both players quickly checked the {5-Hearts} river. The middle position player tabled {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} for ace-high, and Whittington took down the pot with {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}.

And One for Andwan

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Under-the-gun player Jason Darland opened for 600, and action folded around to Dominic Andwan in the small blind, who called.

Neither player fired the {j-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop, but Andwan led the {k-Diamonds} turn for 800. Darland called.

The {6-Clubs} river paired the board, and action went check-check. "I have a set," said Andwan, tabling {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for a turned flush draw and rivered trips.

After a few minutes, the button said, "Ah, I'm going to let you have it," and showed the {a-Hearts} from his hand before folding. Morse flashed the {a-Diamonds} over to the button before pulling in the pot.

Whittington Gets Value with Bullets

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

With a flop of {k-Hearts}{7-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, Blake Whittington in the cutoff and Tony Coffey in the hijack went heads up to a turn card after Whittington bet 1,700 and Coffey matched it.

The {9-Diamonds} turn straightened out the board and added a flush draw. Both players checked.

Whittington fired 3,200 when checked to on the {5-Spades} river, which put four to a straight on the board. Coffey called without much hesitation, and Whittington rolled over {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades} for an overpair and the pot.

Corson, who had been in and out of the hospital over the last few months, played one final HPT event, Event #9: $300 NLH 6-Max, during the HPT Season XV Championship Series here at Hollywood Casino St. Louis, getting a rousing round of applause from the room in support of his fight against his disease.

HPT Marketing Director Korey Stewart tweeted out support for Corson's final tourney, and said, “Aaron has been a big part of the St. Louis poker scene for years. He’s had a major impact on everyone who is familiar with his story. It has been really great to see the community rally to support him.”

Corson has elected to live the final months of his life on his terms and has entered Hospice care, stating, "I have fought this disease with everything I have for over five long years and I will continue to fight for as much quality time as possible. I am not afraid and it's you all that give me the courage to take these final steps of my journey on my own terms. Corson is an avid supporter of First Descents, a non-profit organization that sponsors "Life-changing adventures for young adults impacted by cancer," and Corson has been on several First Descents adventures that have inspired him to continue to fight and live a life of hope and purpose. These free outdoor adventure programs empower them to climb, paddle, and surf beyond their diagnosis, reclaim their lives and connect with others doing the same.

On behalf of everyone on the HPT, they wish Corson the best as he reaches the end of his life on his terms, and express their gratitude in his support over the years.

Schmitz Folds Trips

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Jorden Helstern opened to 400 under the gun seven handed and saw two callers: the cutoff and Tod Schmitz in the small blind.

The all-heart flop of {10-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts} prompted a continuation bet from Helstern to the tune of 1,100 when checked to. The cutoff folded, but Schmitz wanted to see a turn.

Action went check-check when the {5-Clubs} paired the board, and the {7-Hearts} river brought in the fourth heart. Schmitz checked it over to Helstern, who fired 2,700.

Schmitz shook his head as he glanced at his hand for a last time, flashing the {5-Diamonds} for turned trips before mucking.
