Poker Couple Sinead and Matthew Davenport Bag Top Stacks on Day 1c of Irish Open Main Event

Level 15 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Sinead Davenport
Sinead Davenport

Sinead Davenport and her husband Matthew Davenport were just two of the 1,065 entries on Day 1c of the 2026 Irish Open €1,150 Main Event. However, when only 253 players remained at the Royal Dublin Society at the end of the night, they were not only both still in, but they found themselves among the top stacks in the room.

Matthew Davenport was grinding steadily throughout the day, capturing the chip lead in the final break but losing a few chips during the final two levels of the night, finishing in 11th place on the leaderboard with 477,000 chips, good for nearly 80 big blinds at the start of Day 2. In contrast, Sinead Davenport really started to heat up at the day's apotheosis, scoring a double knockout on her way to bagging 497,000 chips, landing her in eighth position.

Meanwhile, the chip lead is in the hands of Alexander Rizvi, who soared up the rankings at the end of the night and amassed a stack of 748,000 in the process. Rizvi is closely followed by UK regular Alex Todd, who gathered 746,000 on his chase for a fourth cash in a row in the Irish Open Main Event. Ronan Sweeney was Ireland's best performer, clinching third place with 627,000 in chips.

Popular poker streamer Parker Talbot led the field heading into dinner break but swung down during the remainder of the night, bagging 187,000 when all was said and done. Other notable names to make it through include Thomas Clack (335,000), Nikolay Ponomarev (284,000), Manuel Ferrari (279,000), Ali Abdulzahra (267,000), Jack Hardcastle (240,000), Barny Boatman (200,000), and Brandon Harris (187,000).

Three Irish Open champions showed up on Day 1c, but neither David Docherty, Simon Wilson, nor Marty Smyth was able to secure a bag. Julien Dupre was the sole representative of Team PokerStars on Day 1c, but was eliminated shortly before the end of the night after an uneventful day. Bracelet winners Mitchell Hynam, Albert Hoekendijk, Hector Berry, and Ranno Sootla were also eliminated throughout the day, as were WPT champions Frank Stepuchin and Scott Margereson.

With 2,241 total entries combined thus far, the Irish Open Main Event is set to crush its €2,500,000 guaranteed prize pool on the final flights, Day 1d and Day 1e, which both take place tomorrow, Friday, April 3. Day 1d will start at noon local time and will follow the same structure as the previous three starting days, with 15 40-minute levels to be played. Day 1e is a turbo flight with 20-minute levels and begins at 8 p.m. local time.

The 2026 Irish Open Main Event is on pace to beat last year's attendance record of 4,562 entries, so tune back in to PokerNews tomorrow as the massive Day 1d will be reported live from start to finish.

Ravi Sheth

Lily Lotfy raised to 8,000 under the gun, getting called by Ravi Sheth and John Enright in the next seats over. It then folded to Sanford Tabin in the big blind, who put his final 43,000 at risk by moving all in.

Lotfy quickly mucked her cards, but Sheth flicked in a call. Enright gave it some thought before he also got out of the way, forcing a showdown.

Sanford Tabin: QQ All in
Ravi Sheth: 44

Tabin only increased his lead on the 583 flop, but the 2 turn provided Sheth with a straight draw. He completed his wheel on the A river, sending a stunned Tabin home as a result.

Ivan Tononi had three-bet from the button preflop, and Ross Miller had called in the hijack, leading to a pot of roughly 35,000 in the middle.

Tononi then continued for 8,000 on the 10108 flop, which Miller check-called. The 4 turn was then checked through to the K river. Miller checked again, prompting Tononi to place a bet of 30,000.

Miller spent some time in the tank before he announced a call. Tononi tabled AA, and Miller paid his opponent what he owed.

Big Stacks Battle on Table 6

Dan Samson
Dan Samson

Kees van Brugge opened to 6,000 in middle position, getting called by Dan Samson in the hijack and Moya Murphy in the big blind.

"The two biggest stacks at the table," Murphy noted.

"The three biggest stacks," Samson corrected her as the 845 flop was checked to him.

He then bet 12,000, receiving calls from both opponents. The trio checked through the 2 turn, after which Murphy and Van Brugge both checked the 6 river as well.

Samson piled in a bet of 30,000, quickly folding out Murphy. Van Brugge spent some time in the tank, however. Eventually, the clock was called on him. Van Brugge let his hand go near the end of his 30-second countdown, surrendering the pot.

"I nearly called," Murphy said as Samson dragged the pot.

"I almost called with queen-high," Van Brugge admitted.

"Queen-high? What do you put me on to call with queen-high?" a bewildered Samson asked his opponent.

"Ten-high," Van Brugge dryly replied.

Lee Egan in middle position and Kieran O'Donovan in the hijack had built a pot of 125,000 when Egan slid in a bet of 25,000 on the completed board of 92K78, enough to put his opponent all-in.

O'Donovan weighed his options for a while, but deemed his odds to good and called for his tournament life.

Egan triumphantly tabled KK for top set, leaving the A9 of O'Donovan in the dust and sending his neighbor to the rail.
